deadmeow #26 Posted August 19, 2007 As a kid I remembered seeing the ads in the video game mags for Bounty Bobs Great Sky Scraper Caper, or whatever the Miner 2049'er sequel was supposed to be called. Years later, when I found out it had never been designed or released, I was very disapointed. Miner 2049'er II seems to be a bit of a let down, compared to the original. SRGilbert #27 Posted August 19, 2007 Being in Dallas, where a lot of things were developed for the Atari 400/800 in the early 80's, I seem to vaguely remember cool games and even hardware that were promoed, and then I look as gospel they happened after that, but no one remembers them. Or this one is a good one... there was a lot of rumors I heard throughout the 80's that TRON was actually the middle part of a much larger book, and that there was a 1/3rd that happened before, and a 1/3 that happened after that was just as large as the portion that covered the movie material. When I have tried to google this, I find no such thing. I did find a person in Fort Worth selling "The Adventures of Flynn" as a manuscript, but that has faded off too. One more story, when I was published in the Dallas Morning News about being an Atari fan, one guy contacted me and asked me if I had ever heard of a "Vootrex". I said "Must be a Vectrex". He insisted it was not a Vectrex though. That one was interesting. That's right along the line (or maybe a perversion of the same myth) of Star Wars. I remember when I was a kid, the original noval for Star Wars had the subtitle "From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" on it. Logically, this meant to us that there MUST be other books in the series, they just didn't have them at the local library! Back then the myth was that there were in fact 9 books in total (or one really big book!) Now of course, this did have some basis in fact, Lucas has claimed that he had outlined a much bigger story in the beginning, but chose the "middle" to start out as it had the most potential for wide spread appeal (when he's right, he's really right.) carmel_andrews #29 Posted August 21, 2007 Arkanoid 3 does exist (on the ST at least) i have a disk image (emulator format) of the said game on vectronix menu I recall that firebird (a UK software house, used to be part of telecomsoft/BT till they got bought out by microprose) Had the license to convert the clssic BBC game 'Elite' to other formats, Apparently an A8 (Atari 8bit) version was planned, according to the mailbag section of atari user (database) it was subsequently dropped as it looked 'too good' There was supposed to be an A8 version of the Konami coin op game 'Jackal'
Lauren Tyler #30 Posted August 21, 2007 I remember when LoZ: OoT came out, several students were trying to pull a fast one on me, saying stuff like 'My dad knows someone who works for Nintendo, so I got my copy early!' To be perfectly frank, I'd think Nintendo would have a policy about employees getting games before release dates. Either way, the fact that some people are willing to stoop that low just because they want to look cool. I dunno, this seems perfectly reasonable. Doesn't seem like it would be uncommon that those on the inside to get perks like that. It's only that "My Dad knows someone" bit that is laughably suspect. Exactly, not to mention given at my school there were a lot of students who had behavior problems. Actually, I think one of them actually said their dad worked for Nintendo and had brought home a copy for them. Yeah right. (Mind you I live in MA.) +doctorclu #33 Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) That's right along the line (or maybe a perversion of the same myth) of Star Wars. I remember when I was a kid, the original noval for Star Wars had the subtitle "From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" on it. Logically, this meant to us that there MUST be other books in the series, they just didn't have them at the local library! Back then the myth was that there were in fact 9 books in total (or one really big book!) Now of course, this did have some basis in fact, Lucas has claimed that he had outlined a much bigger story in the beginning, but chose the "middle" to start out as it had the most potential for wide spread appeal (when he's right, he's really right.) Yeh, the "middle" part of the story will always be the best part in my opinion. Back in the mid 80's I was visiting an uncle and my cousin was supposedly really into the Star Wars story and got ahold of the Nine book set. Said it came out in the late 60's (Which is logical, the middle was 4-6, you would have the prequels, and the three after the middle right?) You could get away with soooo much before Google and Snopes.com. Said that the Droids were in all the books, and that Chewbaka shows up around the third book and is there till the end. Said Han Solo gets shot in the later books. Mentioned that originally the story, at least from the middle part on was about Leia than Luke. She is rescued by Luke and Han. Luke becomes a pilot that later turns out to be her brother, and Han she didn't know what to do with, and winds up marrying. She mentioned the new republic was formed and that Luke starts a Jedi Academy. Eventually the universe is torn apart by wars and conflicts. They travel looking for a new home, now just the droids, Chewbaka and a really old Leia and a caravan of others. And they find and populate... Earth. I think my cousin just had a good imagination and was pulling my leg, because it was also that same day they tricked me into believing my cousin (who was in another state and never visited before) was deaf. So a lot of leg pulling going on that day. Also.. "As a kid I remembered seeing the ads in the video game mags for Bounty Bobs Great Sky Scraper Caper, or whatever the Miner 2049'er sequel was supposed to be called. " Big Five software got WAAAAYYY ahead of themselves on that one. Yeh I remember seeing that ad as an Atari 400/800 user and having people looking for the cracked version of that. So what exactly WAS Miner2049'er II anyway. I know of Miner 2049'er and Bounty Bob Strikes Back. Was M2049er II basically BBSB? Here is another fun one BTW.... Mattel Electronics announced towards the mideighties that they getting out of the game market but might re-enter around 2000 or so. Of course come to think of it, there was the Intellivision 14 in one and 21 in one controllers... think that is what they meant?
