MyDos Boot Behavior

FWIW -- I think I've figured something out about MyDos 4.50's booting behavior, and thought I'd share it. It appears that in its default (distribution) version, MyDos expects there to be D1: and D2: present. When one boots a system that contains both these drives, MyDos boots almost instantly. However, if you boot a one-drive system, MyDos re-checks, and waits a long time for that non-responding D2:.

 

Then if you *add* more drives and write the new dos files out to your boot drive, but next time you boot you don't have those drives on-line (perhaps they are APE drive images that you switch around a lot, as I do), then MyDos goes looking for those "missing" drives again, and the more drives you added before writing the new dos files, the longer it tries to find those drives. So for a fast boot, don't add drives that you will not have on-line each booting time.
