Atari5200
one of favorite retro games and another common that every 5200 owner should have. The game is Dig-Dug. And you all know the rules by now, but in case your new. Difficulty should be default or harder, any controller is fine, emulation is also fine. So get ready and start poppin monsters. Competition will end 7-14-2007 Final Scoreboard Goochman: 249740 Brian R.: 102550 doctorclu: 85120 eegt97: 67610 rxd: 35320 Lord helmet: 25390 Atari5200: 20690 Mike5200: 5660 Edited July 14, 2007 by Atari5200

Brian R.
25390 Oh, come on, you can do better than that! ... of course, I'll be very embarrassed if I go home tonight and can't get at least that... Of course, I've gotten far enough to get the big flower in the right corner. Funny this game was picked. I've recently been playing it on my 5200. At first I dismissed it because it just didn't seem as good as the 7800 version, but after playing for a while, it's pretty solid. Edited July 3, 2007 by Brian R. How would it wear your fire button out? How is it different from the 2600 version? I'm pretty sure it works the same way. You can hold down the button and pop 'em, or press repeatedly. Prodos8
Yes, holding the fire button down will pump & eventually pop the enemies. I've been playing but my scores suck @ss. I do better with my wico stick, even though it's huge, the fire buttons are reliable. My 4052 chips from Futurlec haven't arrived yet so I can't finish my DIY masterplay. I do better with my wico stick, even though it's huge, the fire buttons are reliable. My 4052 chips from Futurlec haven't arrived yet so I can't finish my DIY masterplay. A Wico is what I use. I thank the deities every time I pick it up, for without it my 5200 would be a large paperweight instead of a usable game system. I think when you hold the button down, it takes just three pumps to pop 'em. I've found sometimes that's faster than trying to hit them repeatedly. Although I think in the 7800 version you can pop 'em faster with repeated hits. Tips to high scores: = Kill 'em as deep as possible. Deeper = more points. = Kill Fygar horizontally. You get more points than if you pop him from above or below. Just don't get fried. = Drop two rocks to get the bonus vegetable to appear. This is huge points in later levels. Well in the 2600 version you can hold down the button and pop 'em but in the 5200 version you can't , you need to press repeatedly atleast thats what it's doing here. Brian R.
249740 - Im a bit rusty - first game So much for my score. I doubt I can get anywhere near that. I wonder if it makes any difference if one is playing on an emulator vs real hardware. Me, I use the real stuff.
Goochman
No difference - I got over 400K on the 8bit version and joystick doesnt have much impact on this title - just an easy one for me

+Cafeman
no you don't. you can hold the button down and pop them on the 5200 version. Isn't it a lot slower this way, and faster if you press-press-press the button manually?

Isn't it a lot slower this way, and faster if you press-press-press the button manually? For some reason, I remember press-press-press approach being faster in the 7800 version, but it seems holding the button may be faster in the 5200 version. It only takes three "pumps," holding the button, to pop them on the 5200 game. Hitting them repeatedly, to me, seemed slower.

Atari5200
i find that by trying to hard to get a great score i'm actually hurting my overall progress, but I still suck at this game, much like i suck something fierce at Qix.
Goochman
Ok 1 small hint - dont hold the button to pump. You can get out a jam real quick by hitting the button as fast as you can. I had 2 Pookas and 2 Fygars on my heels and got all 4 (a new record for me ) - I also learned a new trick that the deeper you kill something the more points. I never understood how I could get 1000 killing a fygar!

I never understood how I could get 1000 killing a fygar! I had offered that tip earlier in the thread. Besides that, considering how old this game is, you're just figuring this out now??? Deeper = more points. Killing Fygar horizontally = more points. Sometimes hitting the fire button repeatedly is advantageous, sometimes it's not. If you have multiples coming after you, it can be, because then you can stun one or more long enough to slow it down and give you time to pop another, or get out of the jam.
