Titan Quest. Great game!

Recommended Posts

Today I grabbed a copy of Titan Quest. Man, am I ever having fun with this one. It plays very similar to Diablo 2, but there are a lot of things I like a LOT better than Diablo 2. One, you don't have to keep stupid Town Portal scrolls, just click on a little icon, and you've always got a portal handy. You level up a lot slower, but the game is HUGE, so it's understandable. I like the skill progression. For my first character, I decided on a Conjurer (I like pet classes), and so far, it's a blast! Everything is streamlined, so it plays even easier and faster than Diablo 2 did, and it's easy to just jump in without even reading the instructions. One thing I gotta say I don't like is that early on, your inventory is pretty small (and there's no vault, but there is one in the expansion), so you're CONSTANTLY warping back to town to sell stuff to get money (which you'll need eventually, especially in the expansion), but after you hit level 12 or so, this becomes less of a problem. The game is hard, a lot harder than Diablo 2, but it just makes you think rather than just blindly charging in. All in all, I'd give this an 8 out of 10. Lots of fun if you like these types of games.

I played the HELL out of Diablo 2. What system is this game for?

PC. The specs are fairly low (though it does require a 1.8GHZ processor on the minimum), but be warned that you'll likely run into some trouble getting things to work right. Apparently, there's a common problem that makes the mouse and keyboard lag to the point where it's unplayable. Well, there is a little batch file available online that takes care of that problem. What apparently happens is that the game runs in super high priority mode on startup, and for some reason it even supercedes the priorities of the mouse and keyboard. The batch file makes it run in low priority, so everything works cool.

I've got a 2.6GHZ processor, a 256mb GeForce card, and a gig and a half of RAM, and it still lags in parts on low graphics, so be warned if you don't meet the minimun specs, or it may not even run. Still, it's worth the trouble. It uses ragdoll physics for the enemies, so all those Satyrs and Minotaurs you end up killing really end up in some funny positions when they die.

Guess my 500MHZ processor will have to suffice with Diablo. ;-)

Hmmm, well, after beating the game in normal mod, I've sort of changed my opinion a little bit.

The game is still pretty cool, but it's WAY TOO HARD. I'm substantially above recommended level, and the last boss can oen shot both my pets and me almost instantly (I did finally beat him...by purely luck). I've also been reading, the later difficulty levels have MULTIPLE bosses that pretty much do nothing but one shot everything that comes their way.

That's bullshit. D2 was NEVER that hard, even on the hardest difficulty (I took my 95th level Druid through the hardest and he OWNED everything). Challenge is one thing, cheap ass crap like that are another.

So, it's still a fun game, but it WILL hand your ass to you on a silver platter. Many times.

Ok, so after getting the expansion and installing it...the game now TOTALLY SUCKS. I'm not kidding, and here's why.

There is a problem where the game "stutters" and your FPS will shoot down to literally like 3. This WILL get you killed. Many, many times. The developers know of this problem...BUT, they aren't willing to fix it. All they give is excuses that they're in fianancial trouble, so they can't make a patch because the expansion didn't sell well. Seriously, though, how hard can it be to make a patch if it's something they KNOW the problem to? If they did patch it, or heaven forbid, re-release it with the patch on the disc, then maybe more people will buy it. This boils down to poor quality control and the suits forcing the devs to push out unfinished products. The original game was ok (but WAY too damn hard), but if you play, seriously consider not getting the expansion, cause it will seriously raise your blood pressure.

Ok, so, after HOURS of looking, I finally found a band-aid to help.

Basically, you go into the options text file and there is an option to "force single prosessor=true". Well, for some reason, if you set it to false, things get a lot better. There's still a little stutter now and again, but I'd say that it's at least 50 percent better now. Odd, too, that I have a single processor machine and I had to set it that way, but hell, whatever works.
