Math You #1 Posted July 8, 2007 Can anyone recommend a good sideways shoot'em up for the 2600? I'm thinking about getting Defender II but wasn't sure if there was anything else I should consider. Thanks Matt
2600Lives #2 Posted July 8, 2007 I would say Moon Patrol fits into this category. Very fun AND challenging, and I absolutely DARE you to listen to that music once and not have it stuck in your head for the rest of your life.

I can also think of Laser Gates by Imagic, but I haven't played enough of it to say whether it would hold a lasting interest or not.

godzillajoe #13 Posted July 9, 2007 No love for Chopper Command? That one gets quite twitchy
Shawn #14 Posted July 9, 2007 Phaser Patrol is pretty good but it gets boring after a while (like all the rest of the 2600 shooters).
shadow460 #15 Posted July 10, 2007 The only one you will ever need is Subterranea. End of story.
Deteacher #16 Posted July 10, 2007 My favorite side scroller is Laser Gates. Never could beat the last stage, though. Still one of the best overall.
lhfreak #17 Posted July 10, 2007 Can anyone recommend a good sideways shoot'em up for the 2600? I'm thinking about getting Defender II but wasn't sure if there was anything else I should consider. Thanks Matt Laser Gates is my choice. I've also lost a few hours on Killer Satellites (starting the game at around level 40 or so)
Gregory DG #18 Posted July 10, 2007 Don't forget Flash Gordon.
Lord Helmet #19 Posted July 10, 2007 No love for Chopper Command? That one gets quite twitchy I agree. Everyone needs to own a copy of Chopper Command.
BSA Starfire #20 Posted July 12, 2007 Defender 2/ Stargate is great, Chopper command is also cool and a real challenge. I have another called Overkill, think it is a UK pirate, no idea what the original release was called. I'm pretty fond of planet patrol too. You could also get River Raid and put the TV on it's side
Skylark68 #21 Posted July 12, 2007 Space Jockey is a good game and cheap. Not sure why a lot of people hate it. I did think that it was a little strange blowing up people's houses though.
godzillajoe #22 Posted July 12, 2007 Seaquest is also a lot of fun. You can really get in a "zone" at the higher levels.
plaidbrad3141 #23 Posted July 14, 2007 No love for Sentinel? You actualy get to use a gun.
