Atari5200 #7 Posted July 11, 2007 i don't think it will matter. They have 3 different versions of the console that can meet pretty much any budget, if you want the system for the games, then get the core, if you want a little more, get the premium, if you want the best, get the elite. Right now in my opinion, the games alone are going to sell the console not a console price drop. I mean the PS3 dropped by $100, that's nice and all, but it's still not going to sell that many more consoles if it doesn't have good games for people to use the machine. Lord Helmet #8 Posted July 11, 2007 No price drop... Not sure if this is a good move or not... Hmmm. I was kindof expecting them to follow Sony and cut the price. Maybe right after the holidays. The core version is still moderately priced at $300. That's only $50 more than a Wii, and there is a larger and better library available for the 360. I guess MS feels that they can stay competitive at their origninal price point.
Gregory DG #9 Posted July 11, 2007 I think I'll wait until the Elite becomes the Premium. I'd really rather have one with a 120 gig hard drive for $400.
moycon #10 Posted July 11, 2007 MS already stated they were going to wait and see if Sony's price drop makes a difference. If the PS3 continues to lure gamers away (It's still number one seller on Amazon) then MS will probably cut the price. It's hard to say tho, Amazon is just offering such a great deal. PS3, 6 Blu-Ray disks, and a $25 remote for $499.99 delivered. I wouldn't have ordered one otherwise. I wonder how sales are around the rest of the country? If it's a good deal for a Blu-Ray player, doesn't that mean that it isn't a rip off by default? This was the logic I used when pressing the "Purchase" button. I'm buying a Blu-ray player. Kinda sad. But I figure eventually down the line there will be some great exclusive game I will want. I had the PS2 the day it came out, but only had one game (Timesplitters) the whole first year it was on the market because nothing else appealed to me. The good PS3 games will come...just not sure when.

If it's a good deal for a Blu-Ray player, doesn't that mean that it isn't a rip off by default? Oh absolutely. I am very tempted to buy one as it is a great deal for a Blu-Ray player. But, I already have the HD-DVD addon for the 360 and I don't think I could convince my wife of the benefit of getting it. What I mean to say is that most people are going to look at the PS3 as a game console and the incentive to buy it still isn't there.

A lot of people overlook the fact that the Core actually costs $100 more than the Wii because you do still have to buy a $50 memory card. System isn't worth too much if you can't save a game. The Core would really be a decent deal if MS included a memory card with it. But as it stands now, my opinion is the Core is a total ripoff as for $49 more than a Core+MC, you can buy the Premium and get the HD, Wireless Controller, and Component Cable. moycon #16 Posted July 14, 2007 MS should have never released the CORE in my opinion or like you said should have included like a Gig of Memory.
Gregory DG #17 Posted July 29, 2007 I heard a rumor on the Kim Komando radio show that Microsoft will be dropping the price of the 360s by $50 in early August. Right in time for a bunch of big releases like Madden 08, John Woo's Stranglehold, etc...
