Gabriel #1 Posted July 11, 2007 I was considering downloading Galaxy Railways and making it my first series which I owned as a download as opposed to DVD. Then I examined it a bit more. I found an online outlet with the Galaxy Railways box set for $43. Meanwhile, downloading all the episodes from Live will cost $52. For a complete set, Live is the more expensive alternative (although for things like Guyver and Trinity Blood, I believe it comes out cheaper). Also, each episode is in the ballpark of 250MB. There are 26 episodes. That's about 6.5 Gigs taken up on the HDD. That's prohibitive for the original HDD (mine only has 9.2 GB left). And if you're a series buying fiend like me, the 120GB HDD doesn't look that impressive either, although it would allow the accumulation of approximately 15 series, assuming the same general size (or a little larger). On the other hand, it sounds appealling for testing a new series. I could buy an episode or two of a show I was interested in for $2 each to see if I like it enough to hunt down the DVDs. That's better than $20 or $30 for a DVD with 4 episodes as a taster.
Lord Helmet #2 Posted July 11, 2007 (edited) I really wish that MS would let you use the 360 with a centralized media server. I have been thinking about building a NAS box out of a bunch of spare HDs and using it as a media storage device. I'd like to be able to pop in another 100 gigs of space whenever needed. I like the 360 as a front end for a media center, but the inability to save your DL content on an external HD is a turnoff. I realize that you can use the 360 with a PC, but you can't keep all of your marketplace stuff anywhere but on your 360. Sucks. moycon #3 Posted July 11, 2007 I've been getting the National Geographic Is It True? series through Live. The shows are around 50 minutes and cost 160 points. This to me isn't a bad deal at all. Comes out to $2 a show.... $12 for the whole set with about 300 minutes of viewing pleasure. Now then Aeon FLux is a series I wouldn't mind getting. Unfortunately they are also 160 points and only like 13 minutes long. Not sure I understand that pricing schema. I'm paying like 4 times as much per minute for Aeon Flux? Ferget it. I do like the media content tho. We have a blast just downloading the free stuff and sitting around watching. (It should be noted I don't have cable or any other type of brodcast TV hooked up in my house.)
