Top 5 Videogame anime/movies of all time.

Recommended Posts

Can we even find 5 good ones? Let's find out. Here's my list -

Mortal Kombat - Takes the mythology just seriously enough to set up the spectacular fight scenes.

MegaMan X: Day of Sigma - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s8KGqwWjhM

Fatal Fury 2: At times unbelievably sexist; worse still, it requires you to watch the first Fatal Fury OVA to make any sense. Despite that, it's a must watch for it's depiction of the wandering fighters in these kinds of games as burned out addicts. One to make you think, and the last fight scene is one of the all time great anime battles.

Street Fighter 2: Here's what you do - watch the opening, see Ryu give Sagat his scar. Cammy fans can watch her break a man's neck, the rest of you will want to fast forward to Ryu vs. Fei Long and Blanka vs Zangief, or, if you're not a fan of the characters, head straight to the Chun Li shower scene. Keep going, there's nothing there worth watching, even if you're curious, it's been censored by Barbie and Ken, in an effort to convince the rest of us to cut off our nipples too. No, the scene worth watching comes right afterwards: Vega's attempted assassination of Chun Li is one of the best fight scenes ever put to film, and can stand on it's own. Nothing in the movie before or after can compare. After you've finished watching it, turn off the movie, fire up the game, play until you beat Bison.

Enjoy the ending. You've earned it.

I like some game movies. Here's my picks, though I'll shy away from the animes.

1. Silent Hill. DAMN did they do a killer job on this one. I loved Brotherhood Of The Wolf, and the director gave Silent Hill his signature look. I simply cannot wait till the next one.

2. Mortal Kombat. Great damn flick, and still holds up well today. Annihilation SUCKED, but mostly because they tried to cram as many characters in as possible. If they didn't street-ify up Jax so much, he would have been pretty cool, too.

3. Resident Evil Apocalypse. The first one was good, but RE2 was much better in terms of pure action. Come on, who didn't like Mike Epps "GTA Motherfucker!" line?

4. Tomb Raider. Cradle of Life wasn't all that great, but the first one was pretty good. Not bad at all, really.

5. Doom. This was better than it really had any right to be. The first person sequence wasn't as gimmicky as it was made otu to be, and actually was pretty fun to watch. Though they REALLY fucked the story up, as a whole, it was pretty enjoyable.

And yeah, Chun Li kicking Vega's ass was a great scene.

That means I'm not the only one typing with my eyes closed. Uwe Boll would be proud.

I'm another fan of the first Mortal Kombat movie, even if the second one was an abomination. Ditto on the Resident Evil movies. The first one was thoroughly enjoyable, but the second one just took a lot of wrong turns.

Tomb Raider...not bad. I enjoyed it once, and i assume i'd probably watch it again. I didn't bother with the sequel though, didn't really feel like i needed any more from the franchise.

The Street Fighter II anime movie is probably my favorite video game translation of all time. Pretty much spectacular beginning to end. Also features the classic line "I'm just a Japanese guy, takin' in a fight". Who would ever say something like that? :D

The Street Fighter II V series was not shabby, but it felt less like the game and more like a Hardy Boys movie starring Ken and Ryu.

Doom was mostly terrible. I have faith in both The Rock and Karl Urban as potential actors, it's just too bad they keep picking terrible movies.

Oh, FF VII: Advent Children was good, too. Not so much a movie as an extended encore for people who miss the characters, but it's definitely fun watchin'.

Doom was a piece of shit.

Resident Evil was ok but mostly good becuase they showed mila's bush. The second one was too cheesy.

Aww, come on, Doom was JUST like the game, nothing but mindless, full-on entertainment. All you do in the (original) games is pretty much kill shit, without much storyline. The movie tried it's best to convey that, I think, plus I thought that The Rock had an interesting part as well. Wasn't expecting it, really.

Too bad The Rock's next movie is a Disney guy/kid family flick. Ewwwww. Reminds me of Vin Diesel's turn in that crappy Disney flick he did.

Anyhoo, the first trailer for Hitman is out. Looks like it won't be too bad, especially since Uwe Boll had nothing to do with it whatsoever.

Silent Hill is the only good one i've seen. The Mortal Kombat and Tomb Raider movies are crap and the RE movies are so so.
