SOLD: 2600 Video Life by Comma Vid

Recommended Posts

I need the money so I'm selling the cornerstone of my collection, 2600 Video Life by Comma Vid. If Atari Age members are not interested then I'll put it up on Ebay. The cart, label, and manual are in mint condition as shown by the photos. As everyone knows here this cart rarely comes up for sale. The last one on ebay went for $5000, although it had the box. Asking price is $2900.

Tempting....is that the infamous Devin Knight Video Life?

I was thinking the same thing. If it is.. then he's getting a 580% profit.

Thats a good question. I would like to know as well. Anyway that is a very nice Video Life loose. I personally am just happy to have the instructions to this puppy.

With only 17 known to exist, you will not see this cart too often. Cubicolor has about 75 known to exist and that rarely shows up.

Actually, the number of Cubicolors is closer to 60 and I know one will be at CGE. The Devin Knight story goes back to the early 90's. A few of us old timers (myself included) took a chance with an unkown collector and scored some really sweet cartridges. I got several CIB R9s and R10s. Riff scored a Video Life. I presume this is it.

So you're saying this unknown collector sold his Video Life for only $500 or so? Man, I wish I was collecting back then! ;)

The story is a little different and this isn't the one, I believe he is referring to the $5.00 Video Life that was sold at CGE many years ago, by someone who didn't know what he had. ;) I am sure you can google it.

$5.00?!? WOW! :lust: :D

Still though, this is an amazing item, even at $2900. Unfortunately, I don't have $2900 to spend on one game (I don't even have $2900 in my checking acount!), but I'm sure it'll make someone very, very happy!

I'm referring to this one. I'd bet money on it. Devon knew what he had and $500 sounds about right at that time. The story is (at least the one he told me) Devin Knight was a successful magician in the 1980's. He was also an avid collector of atari games. He travelled around the country acquiring ges from manufacturers. In the 90's he posted on r.g.v.c. that he had rare games pfor sale. Few believed he was telling the truth. After emailing him, I sent a big check and got some great games!

I verified he is a magician. Check google. Check google groups to see his original posts. Search for his name here to see some of the games he sold.

Yes! Certainly the cornerstone of any collection!

I think this was the same auction where I acquired my Texas Chainsaw Massacre for $25...heh

I remember a huge auction around that time with a web page that was available including some pictures of what was being offered. Rolenta (Leonard Herman) emailed me at one point wanting to know if I had received my winnings (he had bid/won several of the BOMB games). At which point I started panicking because, like everyone else, the prices were too good to be true. I think a lot of people purposely stayed away from that auction which kept the prices down.

I think the price for riffraff's Video Life was more like $1500 or so. Some people forget that these rarities already commanded prices like that in the 90s (Alligator People (later PotA) sold for, what was it, $3500 or so?).

Didn't Hans Reutter get the $5 Video Life at CGE '99 ?(I was in that room when that sale happened!)

Cheers,

Marco

Since I still have a copy of the last update with descriptions from the RGVC Knight auction I thought I would

post it here

BTW This is not the final, there were still 4 days to go when I printed this page. I am still looking for the final

results as I am sure I have that also.

I blacked out the user names and email address just to be safe

NOTE the Video Life is listed at the bottom of the first page but the description is at the top of the second page

Wow. I haven't heard that name in so long, but yes.. I took a major chance at the time and plunked down a lot of money for Magicard, Video Life, Color Bar Gen, Eli's ladder, Cubicolor, and some others from this guy's collection. There was a lot of speculation at the time that this collection sale was a hoax, as almost nobody knew of this Devin Knight guy and the collection scene was pretty small. The carts were in superior shape and I ended up getting the games exactly as described. Magicard was the one at the time that commanded the highest price, well over $1000. Video Life ended up going for over $1000 but it was thought to be worth less back then. I had the money at the time and I didn't really tell people back then how much I spent on these except for 2-3 friends which thought I'd lost my mind. Sure brings back memories. :)
