PacManPlus #1 Posted July 19, 2007 Hi: Does anyone have the PAL version of Asteroids? I don't see it in the ROM lists, and I wanted to do a 'diff' between the NTSC and PAL disassemblies to see what I had to do to make the PAL version of my Asteroids Deluxe hack. If there is no separate PAL version, then I need to ask: has anyone tried Asteroids Deluxe in a PAL 7800? Does it work? Thanks, Bob
alex_79 #2 Posted July 19, 2007 Asteroids is built-in in the PAL 7800 console. In this page there are dumps of bios roms for use with mess emulator. PAL Asteroids code should be included in the 7800 PAL bios.
PacManPlus #3 Posted July 19, 2007 (edited) Thanks, although MESS keeps complaining about needing a cartridge image to run, and ProSystem doesn't seem to need the bios I'm guessing, though that the Asteroids in the bios is actually dual format, as I read somewhere that if you use that bios in an NTSC machine it will play correctly. If someone with a PAL 7800 and a Cuttle Cart II would let me know for sure, it would let me know for sure. Thanks! So even though it says PAL 7800 BIOS it actually works fine for both, it was just shipped in PAL 7800s. I don't think the BIOS is playable as a cartridge image, I can try to test it but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work. Mitch
PacManPlus #5 Posted July 19, 2007 (edited) I actually tried it earlier; it doesn't work. BTW, I do have a PAL 7800, but unfortunately I cannot for the life of me get a picture from it. Edited July 19, 2007 by PacManPlus
+Mitch #6 Posted July 19, 2007 I actually tried it earlier; it doesn't work. BTW, I do have a PAL 7800, but unfortunately I cannot for the life of me get a picture from it. Is it PAL-B or PAL-I? The PAL-B units should work on channel 2 or 3. The PAL-I units should work on channel 34 (I think, or somewhere in the mid thirties). I just use a standard NTSC 7800 power supply with mine. You will only get a black and white picture with no sound, the picture may roll as well. If you have a v-hold knob on your TV you can fix the rolling, you can also get the audio working by replacing an inducter in the 7800. Mitch
