phitter #1 Posted July 22, 2007 I think this is hilarious...but also puts things in perspective. My 6-year old just got the Power Rangers plug-n-play for his birthday. I asked him if he would still want to play the old Atari with me. He replied, “Dad, that system is from the 1900’s!” I have never felt so old. -phitter

sandmountainslim #4 Posted July 22, 2007 Our Atari's are now "Relics of the 1900's"? That puts 'em in with Model A Roadsters and the Berlin Wall WP
+FujiSkunk #5 Posted July 22, 2007 I prefer the term "20th century." Saying it's from the 1900s makes it sound like it's a hundred years old.
Foxsolo2000 #6 Posted July 22, 2007 Now if someone could invent a time machine and leave a 2600 in the 1900's that really would make history
opeygon #7 Posted July 22, 2007 it does make me feel old, but i also think it's kinda cool. i was born in 1976 and like many of you i grew up in the 80's. we saw the advent of home video games, the rise of the pc and the spread of the internet. the men who invented and played a part in bringing about all these technologies were the creators. these geniuses were, by and large, from a differnet generation than mine. but it was me, and the millions of other children of the 80's, that these new and exciting technologies were targeted toward. without us (and our parents money), some of the technologies we take for granted today may never have taken off. i see this as a symbiosis that continues to this day. but what makes our collective experiences growing up in the late 70's and 80's distinctive from later generations is that we were the first. in short, they invented it, but we made it cool. thus securing our favorite toys and technologies a place in human history. ATARIPITBULL #8 Posted July 23, 2007 Atari 2600 may be old, but people who come to my house and see my collection room almost shit there pants, most never knew that Atari had so many games and accessories and wish they had kept there's and those too young to have played it always ask for me to fire up the sixer and play a few games and all love it. +atari2600land #9 Posted July 23, 2007 I think I'm in the minority here. I know there's some people younger than me (I'm 24), but most of you are older than I am. When I grew up it was NES, NES, NES, followed by Super NES and Sega Genesis. I have never heard of the Atari 2600, 5200, or 7800 as a kid. I had heard the name Atari, and knew it stood for 70's and early 80's games, but just in the past couple years have understood that Atari means wonderful games that are way better than most of the stuff put out now. If only more Atari products had been sold where I live (and if only I was about 5 or so years older...), then I would probably have way more Atari games than I do now. BSA Starfire #10 Posted July 24, 2007 My other hobby/passion is classic British motorcycles of which I have 7. The most modern of these is 1968 so the Atari feels quite modern in comparison although I was created only five years before the VCS! As a friend of mine says, anything with a mains plug on the end isn't that old, after all we haven't had electricity THAT long
+Random Terrain #11 Posted July 24, 2007 At least all of you gross old people are still playing video games. Once you start smelling like poop and perfume, I hope you don't abandon video games and move on to cards and shuffleboard.
