Damon Plus #1 Posted July 22, 2007 Being one of the best, and most popular Lynx titles, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a thread about it. It won't get much traffic, but it sure will be interesting to hear what people have to say about the game. At first I thought in creating this for hearing tips when playing the game and get high scores, and know how people would rank the games (from best to worst), but you can throw everything here, really (reviews, or your first experiences with the game, for example. I can't give any tips because I'm fairly new to the game, but I' ll rank the games: 1-Surfing (Most fun event from me, and the easiest to play) 2-BMX (Pretty close to the first one, only its difficulty keeps it from being #1) 3-Half-Pipe (I've just learned how to play it correctly, so it might get ranked higher soon) 4-Footbag (the only event I don't find too fun to play) So, for me: Surfing>BMX>>>Half-Pipe>>>>Footbag
Gregory DG #2 Posted July 22, 2007 BMX and Surfing are pretty much the only two games I play. And I think I like BMX better. I just wish there were more races/tracks/whatever. I almost never play Footbag or Half-Pipe. I like CG because it's good in short bursts. You don't have to play for hours on end to get instant enjoyment out of it. +atari2600land #4 Posted July 23, 2007 Maybe if I took some time to learn the mechanics of the gameplay (and read the instruction booklet), I might like it better. Surprisingly, the only game I can comprehend and play right now is footbag, which, apparently, most people don't like that much. When I play my Lynx, Shanghai and Pinball Jam get the majority of gameplay.

graywest #6 Posted July 25, 2007 Whenever I put California Games in, I have to play a few rounds of BMX first. My second favorite lately has been halfpipe (since I recently figured out how to play it), followed by footbag and surfing. Not that I dislike surfing, I just haven't played it that much lately. +FujiSkunk #7 Posted July 25, 2007 (edited) BMX will always be my favorite. I can still remember the gasps made by my friends and me the first time that poor rider was knocked off his bike and tumbled what must be a 100 feet down the hill... only to have the bike land on top of him. Then, every once in a while you pull off one of those insane 500-point stunts that you just know you'll never do again, and you think, "Now that's just @#$% cool." Surfing is in second place, if only because that is the most realistic looking ocean wave of all the California Games releases out there. Sometimes it really looks like the water is rolling out of the screen. Footbag and halfpipe are all right, but I just couldn't get into the rollerskating and flying disk events. Maybe it's me, but I found them completely unplayable on the Lynx. Edited July 25, 2007 by skunkworx

jobro #9 Posted August 12, 2007 Are these on the LYNX cart? Haven't found them. BMX takes the prize for me. A hint make sure to jump at the utter edge of the slopes to gain speed.

Flying disk and rollerskating? Those are probably on the original California Games for the computer. But on the Lynx it's just the 3 events. There is the girl rollerskating on the highscore screen, but no reference to frisbee or flying discs at all. But anyways..... My favorite is Surfing first. Then BMX is a close 2nd. I should start skateboarding again soon, but it doesnt really give you as much freedom as the other 2, so it gets more repetitive. And footbag......that game is something i rarely try. But one of these days I'll see how my high score matches up with you guys.

That would explain why they're unplayable. In other words, it's a joke, son. Also, double check your arithmetic. +atari2600land #12 Posted October 21, 2007 Why is the manual for California Games larger than the others? It's the biggest manual I have so far.
ls650 #13 Posted October 21, 2007 Generally, CG was a pack-in for Lynx. The manual could be large to fit in the Lynx system box. To save costs, Atari made the boxes much smaller for the separate releases, and I'm sure that that is at least partly simply to save printing costs. phuzaxeman #14 Posted October 21, 2007 Footbag and halfpipe are all right, but I just couldn't get into the rollerskating and flying disk events. Maybe it's me, but I found them completely unplayable on the Lynx. my high score on rollerskating is 22,340. the technique is to get a lot of speed so you can get some hang time on the 720 jumps on the rollers skates.....
