I'm pretty sure they would just ruin it with CGI. I mean why use real robot's? That would make too much sense for hollywood to go with especially seeing as it's a proven method with the other 2 films.

Shawn, have you seen Transformers this summer? I thought the CGI for the robots was absolutely amazing. Although to get the kind of funding to make Johnny 5 look good he would probably have to take on the Terminator or something and in the process blow up a lot of stuff a la Michael Bay.
