A Sprite #1 Posted July 25, 2007 Above: PC remakes of Tempest 2000 and Rayman. Which games were remade or ported over? Were they as good as the Jaguar version?

Were they as good as the Jaguar version? luckily most ports and conversions on the Jaguar were somewhat superior to the other versions on consoles!, but thats IMHO!! Trip_Cannon #3 Posted July 25, 2007 (edited) Weren't Rayman and Tempest actual releases on the PC? Not remakes? Edited July 25, 2007 by Trip_Cannon
Gregory DG #4 Posted July 25, 2007 I remember seeing a PC version of Vid Grid in EB back in the day...
A Sprite #5 Posted July 25, 2007 Weren't Rayman and Tempest actual release on the PC? Not remakes? My mistake in wording. Rayman was an official release. The Tempest game I linked to is a freeware remake.

Trip_Cannon #7 Posted July 25, 2007 Quite a few Jag games made it on to PC... and vice versa... Most were ported from PC so I'm thinking you're asking what exclusive Jag games made it to PC... Soooooo... I don't know if you want to include Aliens vs. Predator on that list... but I think T2k is the only exclusive title to be ported to PC... A Sprite #9 Posted July 25, 2007 I linked to the freeware Tempest remake, because it's freeware. I thought you guys might enjoy it. I really have no idea what else this thread is about, but free games are always a good thing, aren't they? Also, I don't have a Jag... Can you blame me for trying to find out what Jag games I can play anyways?
+doctorclu #10 Posted July 25, 2007 Most I've talked to that had seen the official releases of Tempest 2K on the Jaguar and the PC were unimpressed with the Tempest 2K for the PC, or at least thought the Jaguar version was better.
Bill Brasky #11 Posted July 25, 2007 (edited) Baldies, Attack of the Mutant Penguins(as just 'Mutant Penguins') and Flip-Out were also released on the PC. There's also the Iron Soldier games on the PS and Nuon. Edited July 25, 2007 by Bill Brasky
A Sprite #12 Posted July 25, 2007 I found a review of the PC version, check this out - Could have been fantastic, but falls down when one seriously tries to play.I'm about he biggest fan of Tempest that there is. I co-held the world's record for about 6 months (1982) and even owned a stan-up machine for several years (should have never sold that!). Anyway, the premise of Tempest 2000 is to port the Atari Jaguar title to the PC/MAC in all its glory. Graphically, the PC version is very faithful to the Jaguar, and the controls are responsive and clean. Play is pretty much ported over exactly too. My main (and extreme) gripe is that the software alsmost seems like it was not playtested after about 40-50 levels. each level inrcementally increases the difficulty, to the point that at about level 65 or so, it's IMPOSSIBLE to proceed. I mean IMPOSSIBLE. I went as far as using a variable clamper (holding things like # of lives constant) and was unable to proceed any further. This took what could have been an incredible experience and made it absolutely no fun. I ended up giving up (and I don't give up easily). Avoid this title at all costs unless you plan to collect it (and not play). -Gamespot Is this true for the Jag version?
crash #13 Posted July 25, 2007 I was under the impression that I-War (aka Netwar) was also released for the PC, but I've never seen it in spite of trying to locate a copy.
Bill Brasky #14 Posted July 25, 2007 There was a game called that but it had nothing to do with the Jag version. I don't know how they got away with using the same name.
A Sprite #15 Posted July 25, 2007 I was under the impression that I-War (aka Netwar) was also released for the PC, but I've never seen it in spite of trying to locate a copy. I-War (a space sim) and Netwar (overhead shooter) were released for the PC. Neither is related to the Jaguar game.

Tursi #17 Posted July 25, 2007 The PC port of Tempest 2000 was not based on the original code (so far as I know), and doesn't really come close. I'd even disagree with the review that it's graphically faithful (although the main game was fine, the special effects like the 'melt-o-vision' were not present). It was a competent remake but fell short.
jaybird3rd #18 Posted July 25, 2007 In case anyone hasn't seen it, I posted the Atari Interactive PC version of T2K, as well as Jeff Minter's take on it, in this thread. In short: I think it's a very good port. It may be lacking Melt-O-Vision and some other finishing touches, but it does have a CD soundtrack and actually plays more smoothly on a good PC than the original T2K did on the Jaguar. I'm still amazed that I can play it on my 33MHz 386 at full speed, even with joystick support. I am glad someone has taken a stab at a freeware remake of T2K, though, because the DOS version (and the Win95 version that Interplay later released) are difficult to run on modern PCs because of their memory and graphics requirements. kevincal #19 Posted July 25, 2007 The majority of Jag games were infact on other systems/PC's. Unfortunately, a lot of them were rushed 16-bit ports... :/ The Jag still rocks though.
