This is the original 1983 Vestron Video release. The new release has replaced the original poster artwork.

Thanks for posting that. Believe it or not, a local video store here still has that tape for rent.

 

The VHS re-issue from a few years ago was just dubbed off an old VHS tape, so the quality was awful. The new DVD as you pointed out is terrible. The video appears to have been taken from the laserdisc version, but no attempt was made to make it look good (it would have taken them an extra hour or two - tops). The sound is also way too loud on it. DVD audio is supposed to be set at a standard level, and they didn't do that. I have to turn my volume way down, or it could blow the speakers out.
