I love free stuff!

Recommended Posts

Well, meet the newest member of my game room. Not as good a find as some of my other travels like atari 2600's intellivision, dreamcast, and tg16 but none the less, agood find seeing as i was on the hunt for a decent tv for my atari games. I already have a 32" sony and a 46" mitsubishi for the newer stuff. This is a 25" stereo receiver/monitor console with rear av inputs, which i like to have :D I was on my way to an appointment and a 2 and a half hour drive and my wife saw thison the side of the road so i figured, what the heck...Its very clean, loader up and bring it home. :)

That TV rocks! A a youth I was lucky enough to have a huge console TV like that in my bedroom, w/ my Atari VCS & 800XL hooked up to it. I recall playing Casino & watching "Bizarre" (starring John Byner) on it. :)

Then one day the picture went out & we determined it wasnt worth repairing, so we dumped it in the river at midnight.

Just kidding.

Having a/v jacks and no scatches really makes this an excellent find. That must have been pretty heavy to lift into you auto.

Did it by myself into a 2006 dodge grand caravan......not to mention 3rd floor in the house. had a lil help from a friend to the second floor where i left it for about a half hour, then i took it up to the 3rd by myself again Oooooo my backkk!! :)

Yeah right!

I know you really did it! LOL.

anyway that is a fucking pristine TV especially for Atari enjoyment. The av inputs are awesome. I want to make a room that has only appliances from the early eighties in it, and I've been looking for a nice TV.

That's awesome, now you need to replace that Sears system with a genuine woodgrain Atari to match the tv!

Yup. I do have the original ataris, one light sixer and two 4 switchers, then i have a sears light six and the sears heavy which you see in the pic. I just hooked that one up because its the only heavy i have right now. But your right, with the woodgrain they look good together. :)

It seems amazing that something like that which is in good condition got thrown out, but to you Americans it's just a common old TV.

Over here in the UK we don't have anything like that, it's definatley something which would never be thrown out, more like sold if the owner didn't want it.

Here in the USA, at least where I live, older CRT TV's are a dime a dozen. People are buying newer TV's with digital tuners and also those old floor consoles take up more floor space than a newer 27" model that you can put on a TV stand.

By the way many people will put stuff out on the curb hoping that someone comes by to pick it up. I've grabbed my fair share of free things this way!

Sounds like you must live in Beverly Hills or something. Not that I think people don't have brains there, just that it seems you'd only get that kind of thing happening in an extreamly rich area.

LMAO :lolblue: No. What it is, is every year about twice a year, some cities have what they call "cleanup day" basically, they clean out garages, attics, basements , and closets. Whatever they don't use or want goes right to the curb and its usually almost every house you come to for blocks. Many streets. People driving aroundin trucks vans and whatever scavengering. I got so much stuff, i'm running out of room. computers game systems tv's stereos dvd players board games puzzles books vcr's. u name it

I wonder why we don't get anything like that happening in Britiain?

I have noticed though that both our countries have turned a lot more into 'disposable societies'. Because of the cheapness of stuff these days (you can get DVD players for as little as £9 for example), the rate at which technology is moving forward (a lot of things become obsolete after a coupla years), and I think we're earning a lot more compared to what we did say a decade ago too.

Still, America does seem to be A LOT more of a disposable society in Britain.

It's a shame our stuff doesn't get taken to third world countries instead of the dump.
