SpicyChronos #1 Posted August 2, 2007 Hello all, I wanted to play around with the XRAM memory tester from Satantronic, and when I load the COM file, it comes up, and when I run it, it says I have errors on $83. I have the Wizztronics 256K upgrade installed, it's based off of the Claus Buchholz 256K memory upgrade. I haven't had any trouble with lost data, etc.. but the XRAM tester only shows 240K of memory available, 15 banks. After the test runs, the computer locks up. any suggestions? thanks. -Spicy
+CharlieChaplin #2 Posted August 2, 2007 Don`t panic !! Afaik, this behaviour is normal for all RAM-testers you will run on your upgrade. You have 64k RAM and 192k extra RAM, but due to replacing the 8x8k memory chips with 8x32k memory chips (and not using a separate board with different wiring), the software that "sees" the extra RAM cannot see (or make a diference in) what is base (64k) RAM and what is extra RAM. This is a hardware issue typical for all these upgrades that replace 64k RAM with 256k RAM (Buchholz, Newell, Rambo and others) - and it cannot be solved with software... So, the software sees 48k of your base ram and 192k of your extra RAM as a total of 240k extra RAM. Whats wrong with the remaining 16 k then ?!? Well, this is the RAM under the OS which the software does not see at all... Anyway, don`t worry, your upgrade works fine - just like you have said, every program works as it should. Only the ramtester programs show strange results, but thats normal... -Andreas Koch.
SpicyChronos #3 Posted August 2, 2007 Okay, Thanks for explaining that. I was wondering if it was my upgrade, etc. -Spicy
