moycon #1 Posted August 3, 2007 August 2, 2007 - In a conference call set to begin at 5:30pm EST today, Rockstar Games will announce that it will delay the release of its highly-anticipated title Grand Theft Auto IV. Previously slated to hit stores on October 17th, the game will now make its way to gamers some point early next year. In technical, company jargon, Rockstar has moved its release from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 to the second quarter of its fiscal 2008. In real-world terms, this means the title will ship sometime between February 1st and April 30th, 2008. The reason for the delay is simple: Rockstar North needs more time to polish it. Given the game's exceptionally high expectations, Rockstar has chosen to push back the release a handful of months rather than rushing the title out to market. Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games, had this to say: "The new consoles are allowing us to create the Grand Theft Auto game we always dreamed about. Every aspect of the game and its design has been completely transformed. The game is huge and is pushing the hardware platforms to their absolute limits. The top engineers from Sony and Microsoft are working closely with the team in Edinburgh right now, helping us to fully leverage the power of both platforms. As always, our goal is to surpass even the wildest expectations of the game's fans, and to create the ultimate high definition video game experience." Oh well. I like the series alright. (Altho GTA 3 was enough for me on the PS2, I didn't get into the Vice one too far and I didnt play the last one at all) I was looking forward to checking this out on the new systems and seeing how it compared to Saints Row. Kind of a disapointment, but I'd just as soon they keep it until it's done instead of rushing it to the market (Like many many games)
Gregory DG #2 Posted August 3, 2007 Heh, I bet it's done on the 360 but not for the PS3. So Sony paid them to hold off the release until their version was done... (Kinda like the Rayman situation.)

Possibly so I guess, why would the PS3 version take longer? Aren't they going to be the same on both systems?

They will be the same on both systems but Sony's systems are notoriously hard to develop for. The XDK (the development kit for XBox) was heralded as a fantastic toolkit that made development for XBox very easy. It made the development very similar to PC development and required little work to port games from PC to XBox. XBox 360 has been claimed to have an even better development environment then the XBox did. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the 360 version was complete but optimization was still underway for PS3. I'm playing FEAR on the 360 and it's awesome, I heard it sucks on the PS3 due to long loading times and choppiness. Hopefully it's things like this they are addressing for the PS3 version altho, I'll be picking this up for the 360 if only for the achievements. StormSurge #6 Posted August 3, 2007 I'm not too upset. There's already a bunch of other games coming out later this year that will eat up my time anyways. (Halo3, COD4, LegoSW to name a few.)
dalton4life #7 Posted August 3, 2007 I can't say I didn't have my doubts about it coming out on time considering how long it took a for a trailer to come out for it
bdog_147 #8 Posted August 5, 2007 This doesn't affect me as I decided to wait untill maybe late next year to get a 360.

I think Sony even admitted somehow that the system would be difficult to develop for, but in return said the games would be better? It could just be me, but given Sony's arrogance, I wouldn't be surprised if they intentionally made it hard to develop for.
moycon #10 Posted August 6, 2007 I actually more disappointed in the second delay of Two Worlds then GTA IV.
+Random Terrain #11 Posted August 6, 2007 It's pretty cool that companies will hold a game until it is ready. GTA: SA was an improvement over the two games that came before it and I hope this next one will be even better. I hope we'll have more freedom and more objects and buildings will be destructible. Smarter people would be nice too. Maybe this time they won't walk into fire. And I would love to see farther. When I'm on a tall building I want to see tiny traffic and people who look like 'ants' and then I could see what kind of long distance damage I could do. What would happen if I dropped a penny? What would happen if I 'dropped' a rocket?
Artlover #12 Posted August 6, 2007 And be able to enter every room in every building. Breaking & entering, kill the home owners and steal their stuff. Kidnap or molsest people. Chain a dog to the bumper of the car. Anything as a weapon. Steal a lawmower and chase people down with it. Take some scorpions from the desert and bring them into the city and throw them in an apartment building ventilation shaft. Storm into the kitchen area of a fast food place and dip the frycook's head in the hot oil vat. They have to make sure you see the deepfried crispy skin slide off his face. Stuff a parrot into a rocket launcher tube and see what happens. Throw skunks off the roof of a building. Go underground with some tools, and connect cross connect sewer/water lines with each other. Catch a cat and strap a bomb to it and let it go in the city. Tinker with the giant ferris wheel and send it rolling into the ocean. Go diving and collect squid, then run around throwing them in people's faces. Have to be able to start a forrest fire. 100% emulation of real reality to fill everyone's stick & twisted pleasures without fear.

Give us more freedom to be as 'evil' or as 'good' as we want to be. From stopping at red lights and giving people flowers and hugs, to chopping off arms and legs and drinking the blood, it should be your choice.

King_Salamon #18 Posted August 6, 2007 This delay will likely result in having me sit on the fence as to which system to buy... both the 360 and PS3 have their advantages but this is the game that will sell me on one over the other (I think). No matter though as I do have a Wii and there are a ton of games I want to get for it this year.
