+Propane13 #1 Posted August 6, 2007 Hi all, So, 100 copies of Lasercade were made. And, 100 copies were sold at CGExpo. I was not fast enough to get my copy. Supposedly, I was 5 seconds away from getting the last copy. I see 2 on ebay, which means-- So, either 2 people bought theirs simply for reselling profits (which makes me slightly angry-- I would have bought to play, not to resell), or, these are auctioned off by the original sellers for charity or something (which is understandable and admirable). So, now I am wondering... what's the plan? - Will DP release the rom publically? - Will DP make a "basic edition"? - Or, is this it? Are we done with this title, and did I miss out? Regards, -John
godzillajoe #2 Posted August 6, 2007 I hope more are made or the rom is made public. I dont get why some roms remain hidden away (Turbo, Good Luck Charlie Brown etc.) what would be the reasoning? $$$$?

Turbo will be released. It's just being "readied" GLCB will be released soon as well (as the owner wishes). Neither of these games are being hidden away, they're just not available at the moment. godzillajoe #4 Posted August 6, 2007 That would be quite awesome.
Snider-man #5 Posted August 6, 2007 My guess is that the ROM will probably be made public eventually. I can't think of one CGE release that never eventually saw the light of day.

Regards, -John Wasn't Lasercade available for most of the day? One of the Lasercadees on Ebay belongs to my girlfriend. She bought some of the exclusives to resell and help pay for her part of the trip. Almost everyone I saw bought 2 so I'm sure lots more will be for sale/trade soon. I might be willing to part with mine for the right trade. Here's my want list: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...c=99715&hl= y-bot
Gateway #7 Posted August 7, 2007 Wasn't Lasercade available for most of the day? Lasercade was gone by Noon on Saturday. It took me awhile to get my table set up for Find Trotter on Saturday morning. The organizers knew I would be there, but there was no table for me when we showed up an it took them nearly an hour to find one for me. I went over to get Lasercade and the other releases from the CGE table as soon as I could for me and a friend that couldn't make it to the show. We were both disappointed. But I did get Last Ninja and NERDs Hey y-bot, you guys had an impressive booth at the show! I may have a few of those things on your want list.

I didn't realize Lasercade sold out so fast. I thought the only things that sold out fast were The L.E. Last Ninja & NERDs, NES Sudoku and the oldergames.com stuff that was pre-sold. I got the last limited edition Last Ninja but I sold it to a friend who has done me lots of favors. If you can help me out with something on my want list that would be rad. I love trading! y-bot

Mayhem #10 Posted August 7, 2007 I didn't realize Lasercade sold out so fast. As soon as the doors opened, that's when everyone swamped the CGE table Though I thought Lasercade had sold out with the initial queue and didn't realise it made it until lunchtime... probably best they delayed Pitcher's Duel until the afternoon, I had half expected to get that at the same time. Jess Ragan #13 Posted August 7, 2007 Can someone dump this one, please? Would be great. Would you like Nerds and Last Ninja too? Well, how about a video or even a description of the game in question? I keep hearing "Wow, Lasercade, it's SO amazing!" without anyone ever explaining what MAKES it amazing. It's kind of inconsiderate to torment less fortunate gamers by dangling this title over their heads like a carrot on a stick, don't you think? When Tempest gets a prototype or other rarity, he shares it with the rest of the community. When homebrew developers like Ron Lloyd spend many hours making games, they share them with the rest of the community. More collectors need that generous attitude, rather than hording their booty like a scurvy-crazed pirate. JR

Tom_Explodes #16 Posted August 8, 2007 I wouldn't mind a dump of Last Ninja. I want to see what all the fuss/complaints are about. Assuming no one minds that being done, that is.
ubersaurus #17 Posted August 9, 2007 (edited) Here, I'll start you out. "Lasercade is amazing because..." JR It's a really sweet shooter. I'll try to describe it... Basically, you control this laser rifle in the bottom right corner; you can control it's horizontal and vertical positioning. Your goal is to shoot all the targets in the time allotted. The targets are bouncing around, and to make things all the better, there's light bulbs in the way that will frak with your laser for a few seconds and waste time. If you clear the stage, you go on to a bonus stage where you have to shoot out the flames on this candle before it burns out. Each successive stage adds another target while reducing your timer. It's pretty unique for the 2600, and a really neat game. That said I expect the ROM will be release in a timely manner. Considering the number of prototype ROMs the CGE people have released over the years it's not really them "hoarding" the roms. Offhand, I can only think of roms that the copyright owners don't want released, ones that were dumped and released before they had done it themselves, and Missing in Action. cx2k #19 Posted August 9, 2007 (edited) I just remembered. Did anyone here get one of the 10 red cart shell versions of Lasercade? We made 10 of the 100 with red shells and randomly inserted them in the boxes. John Edited August 9, 2007 by cx2k

Snider-man #22 Posted August 9, 2007 Thanks, Yoob! I appreciate the information. It sounds like one of those games you have to see in action to fully understand. JR That's about the size of it. The game is designed on a three-quarters perspective - kinda like Zaxxon or Congo Bongo where you're looking at the playfield above and at an angle from the corner (if that makes sense). The fact that a 2600 is pulling off that kind of perspective - and clearly too - is pretty damned impressive. When you shoot toward the back wall, there's a "spark if you miss, so you can readjust the L/R and U/D position of the laser. And since you're firing through another "plane" with mirror obstacles between your gun and the target, it's a very challenging shooting gallery. Yes, it's a see-it to believe-it feat of programming.
