Awesome. I recommend Oblivion, Gears of War, Guitar Hero 2, Marble Blast Ultra, and Geometry Wars. There are more but those are the cream of the crop.

Test Drive is an awesome game. I've been playing that myself lately.

What version of the 360 did you get?

If you get Oblivion, be sure to get the expansion packs 2! I also recommend Forza 2 and (believe it or not) Table Tennis. That game seriously is fun, and you should be able to find a copy for less than $20 bucks.

From what I remember they are releasing an Oblivion Game of the Year edition soon that will include all the expansions.

That might be the way to go if you haven't already played it on the PC.

Welcome to the world of the 360. I play mine more than any system I own. It's a great system, especially if you can avoid the red ring of death...but that's not really an issue anymore since MS will fix it for free. Enjoy!

If he returns the 360 now he could just rebuy it Aug 8th and used the extras $$ for anther game or see if the store will give you the difference. I've returned things that have gone on sale a week after I've bought them. You can usually work something out.

I've logged in over 15 plus hours. everything seems A-OK.

 

I hope it doensn't die.. i bought it used from an ad in my local newspaper.... I'm a risk taker!

ps... how long do i have to play it before i can feel safe from the red ring of death?

 

i keep a fan blowing on it when i play, plus i don't play longer the 2 hours in one sitting...

Is it just the heat that kills it? If so, it would be cool if someone would sell a special cooling device that fits over the 360 which would keep the 360 clean (washable filter) and cool. I hope to buy an Elite one of these days. If it dies on me, I won't send it back, I'll boil it and eat it.

Hmmmm If I were you, and I know you've already spent a bunch, but seriously, I would contact MS and try and purchase an extended warranty. It should be $30 a year and will be well worth it.

 

I'm not positive you can do it on a used system, but it never hurts to register it (www.xbox.com) , and then call support and try.

 

360 are great great fun, but notoriously unreliable, that $30 a year gives me great peace of mind. I've already gotten my $'s worth for sure. A recent lightning hit forced me to send both of my 360's in (one at a time). I had them back in less then 2 weeks and the one was after the extended warrenty annoucement, so I was very pleased with the speed. Plus I got a free 1 month Gold card and a free power supply (Those things are like $100 new) Prior to that I sent one in, not for the RRoD but because it was always freeze up when playing PDZ. So trying to get an extended warrenty is the way to go if you can afford it, and if they will let you.

i thought the heat issue was only with the first launch batches of 360's? anyway, there are plenty of cooling devices out there that connect to the 360, I don't use one and I play it quite often and regularly and never had a problem.

The issues I mentioned didn't have anything to do with heat.

Mine crapped out after 9 months of moderate to heavy play time. Some people have it happen sooner than that, others later.

A little advice to help keep it running smoothly is to have it horizontally, otherwise you have a vent directly facing a surface.

Yup.. I keep mine horizontal... the manufacter date was may or april 2006.. so it's not a launch one..

but it's not the newest one either...

I keep mine horizontal as well. I'd also recommend giving it a lot of clearance. It gets noticably warm behind the console. So, if it's on an enclosed shelf, all that heat will be trapped. I have mine out in the open.
