+remowilliams #26 Posted August 15, 2007 I got one of these a few days ago for $20.. it keeps the 360 nice and cool! Keep the unit horizontal, give it plenty of breathing room and ditch that fan...
moycon #27 Posted August 15, 2007 I thought I read somewhere that some (or at least one) of those fans that are inline with your power are actually worse for your 360.
+remowilliams #28 Posted August 15, 2007 (edited) I thought I read somewhere that some (or at least one) of those fans that are inline with your power are actually worse for your 360. Yes it can actually cause problems by interfering with the air flow, its shoddy power connection pass through can cause damage and arcing (MS will reject any warranty claims immediately if they see that) and its been said that it can contribute to power supply failure due to current draw. Reading up on it, it sounds like they redesigned that thing and took care of the problems associated with them. I actually just bought one of the fans that sits underneath a vertical sitting 360. My thought is, that bottom vent is facing a flat surface (with carpet no less), that cant be good. I'd rather it be sitting on something that will allow the air to get out. You're right - that would be a recipe for destruction. Fact is aesthetics aside, these things aren't made to be standing vertically and cool themselves properly. They need the unobstructed wide surface area intake of the non HD side to achieve proper air flow.
