Looking for Game Boy Color or Regular Game Boy

Recommended Posts

Looking for a Game Boy Color for a good price. Screen electronics must be in perfect working order, also don't want a screen that is scratched up. Or a scratch deep enough that it casts a shadow on the screen. Will probably settle for a Game Boy original. Thank you gentlemen.

Would you consider a GBA? I've got one I'd let go for $20 shipped. Its been chewed a bit by a dog (I presume) and has one deep mark on the screen cover. The chewed parts are more of a visual distraction on the case, you can't relly feel them when you play it. The screen cover can, however be replaced easily. It functions perfectly.

Here's some pics:

Thanks for the reply and offer, but I think I'll pass. That's a tempting offer, but I despise the GBA screen. I had one years back. Even the aftermarket lights just made glare all over the screen.

I have a Gray Game Boy $10 shipped if you want it..there lil scrathes on it, but you don't notice it while playing a game

Is it the old school model, or a Game Boy Color? I would probably prefer a Color. Also the screen has no lines through it right? Easy way to check is turn the contrast all the way dark and see if there are light lines through the screen.

Unfortunately, that will be a problem. My Gameboy has lines in the screen too, and I don't like it. The last few Gameboys I tried to buy had those lines in the screen. I want one that is perfect. The Game Boy Colors may not be affected by this problem.

I don't know what's going on, the game boy I had throughout my childhood never got those lines in the screen. Now everyone I see has them. I should have kept that one. :(

Here is a pic of what the lines look like when the Contrast is turned all the way dark.(At least on mine, and others I've seen.)

When you're playing a game there will be no pixels displayed in the light areas. I don't like that.

The Color isn't affected at all by it, but the speaker wiring can fail. It's fixable. If you're looking to play classic Game Boy titles, I'd highly recommend the Pocket.

I've got all three, and they all work great. My brick and one of the colors have had some extensive repairs, but they function like new now.

I know I turned one down myself, but have you thought about moving up to an SP?

The speaker wiring must have failed on my brick Game Boy, becuase the sound is terrible. It works ok with headphones. I do not want a Pocket, because I hate the D-Pad on it. It is too small, and precision control is impossible. (At least for me.) That's another thing I didn't like about the Advance.... Or the Gamecube Controller... They have a home console, will all the room in the world, and they still put a tiny D-pad (Probably the same part from the GBA) on the Controller....That pissed me off.

As far as the SP goes, I had one of those too. Not too fond of it. I traded it in for a DS when they came out. Wound up selling the DS. Wasnt too fond of that system either. I dont like using the touch pad for analog controls.

Just looking to play some classic game boy games on the cheap. Don't have money for the newer gameboys, and I don't like the way they are built.

Game Boy Color D-pad is the same size, no?

As far as I know, I never owned one. I believe it is, that's why I want one.

Oh, you mean the Color has the same small D-pad as the pocket?

God, I hope not.

Yes, exactly...the Game Boy Color d-pad (as well as the rest of the system) is the same size as a Game Boy Pocket (it's actually slightly smaller), not the original Game Boy. That being the case, if you don't like the Game Boy Pocket, you won't like Color either. I have fairly long fingers and I never liked Game Boy Color for this reason.

Damn, you Nintendo!

What about the screen quality between the Gameboys?

Well, whatever. If anyone has any Game boys that ain't Advances, let me know.

Unfortunately, the screen quality of the Color looks better than the original (higher resolution and silver screen instead of green), but it is slightly smaller (I think, I'd have to look). Games definitely look better on the Color and the screen is easier to see overall, but the small size makes playing it kind of uncomfortable (at least for me).

I have an original and a Color if you're interested. They're both good as new. I'm not really looking to sell them, but I suppose I could part with one (I never play them anyway). Shoot me a PM.

Yup, the Color's d-pad is still pretty small. It's tighter than the Pocket or the brick, though. Also bear in mind that the Color takes larger batteries, and they go in the bottom where you hold it. That gives you a lot more grip on the Color than the Pocket. The Color isn't cramped like the Pocket is. Also, the volume control and power switch are in different places, so they feel a bit more natural, IMO. That is, until you discover that rotating the volume knob upward makes the sound fainter...

You'll need headphones with any Color, no matter what condition the speaker is in. Even on the best days, they are very quiet. They will drive headphones quite well, though.

Have you thought about dropping cash on a Game Boy Light?

I have a Gameboy Color and a Gameboy Pocket both in great shape, everything works only a couple small scratches on each screen you can barely see them unless you are really looking for them. The GBC is a turquoise color and the GBP is green. PM me with an offer if you still want either one or both of them will take trades also. (mostly looking for 32x stuff)

here is a pic, scroll down the list of pics you will see them:

Sorry I don't know how to post them any other way.

I just found out about these (gameboy light) before I read this post. Very intreging, but I fear they are out of my price range for the time being. I wonder if it could be possible to put a gameboy light screen into a regular gameboy??? Hmmm.

Where would you get a Game Boy Light screen? LCD screens on consumer electronics are not "universally compatible" - you can't just go buy any screen at Radio Shack or whereever and plug it into the Game Boy Light...

That being said, the Game Boy Light is an absolutely brilliant little system if you really love Game Boy games and want to play them on "original" hardware (as opposed to a GBA SP, using emulation on a DS or GP2X or something). The screen on the GB Light is the same size as the Pocket - larger than the GB Color - and the cool blue indiglo back lighting is very effective in low light situations. Best of all, the screen remains perfectly visible in bright sunlight with the back lighting turned off, unlike most modern back-lit LCD screens (try playing a PSP in bright sunlight!).

For the record, the D-pad is exactly the same size on the Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Light, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, GBA SP and Game Boy Micro - I just went down stairs and checked my collection :)
