+Larry #1 Posted August 8, 2007 I've always been partial to this genre. What are the best of this group for the A8? -Larry
jaybird3rd #2 Posted August 8, 2007 My favorite so far is Activision's "The Great All-American Cross-Country Road Race," which is basically a "Cannonball Run" version of the 2600 game Enduro.

Ross PK #6 Posted August 8, 2007 (edited) You can't go wrong with Elektra Glide, The great American Cross Country Road Race and Pole Position. Edited August 8, 2007 by Ross PK
Michael_ #7 Posted August 8, 2007 Elektra Glide The Atari version totally destroyed the C64 version. I remember having played the Atari version at my friends house and then buying it for my C64. Man!
Urchlay #8 Posted August 8, 2007 Racing Destruction Set is a lot of fun if you have 2 players... though I dunno if it qualifies as a good driving game because the actual racing is pretty lame: the cars feel like they're barely moving, and they don't exactly go the direction you want them to all the time. It feels more like slot car racing than real driving... for a single-player driving game, I'd rather play Great American Cross Country Road Race, but most of the fun of RDS is building the track and trying out different cars in different gravity settings, and blowing each other up Did anyone ever spend much time with the Pole Position Construction Set? I always thought it'd be fun to mess with, but never got around to making any good tracks with it...

Wrathchild #13 Posted August 9, 2007 Baja Buggies I'd agree! Others worth a mention 'TT Racer' and 'Match Racer', the latter being fun with two players! Regards, Mark
Paul Humbug #14 Posted August 9, 2007 For 2 Players action there is nothing better than Pitstop II in my opinion. Als. Great American X Country is all worthwile.
Goochman #15 Posted August 9, 2007 Pole Position Match Racer (forgot about this one - lots of fun 2 player) Pitstop Great American X Country as well Really wish PP2 wouldve made it to the old 8bit
Cybernoid #16 Posted August 9, 2007 For me, I spent hours playing: Rally Speedway Pitstop Pitstop II Pole Position and (this one has not been mentioned yet:) Spy Hunter
Goochman #17 Posted August 9, 2007 Spy Hunter was a bit too choppy for me.
Wrathchild #18 Posted August 9, 2007 I remember having played the Atari version at my friends house and then buying it for my C64. Man! That probably worked the other way around with "The Last V8" then! (though I DID enjoy the challenge of the A8 version and beat it on a few occasions)
Pengwin #19 Posted August 9, 2007 I used to really enjoy Spy Hunter and Pole Position back in the day. I never really enjoyed Elektra Glide, not sure why, I just didn't seem to get on with it.
Heaven/TQA #20 Posted August 9, 2007 Grand Prix Simulator is fun as well esp. multiplayer... not sure if US guys ever got a chance to play it... http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?...VERSION_ID=2285

VW #24 Posted August 10, 2007 Pole PositionMatch Racer (forgot about this one - lots of fun 2 player) Pitstop Great American X Country as well Really wish PP2 wouldve made it to the old 8bit You probably already know this but you can play PP2 on the 7800 for basically the same look and feel as it seems to me anyway that many 7800 games were identical to the 8bit versions. Not sure why they made PP2 for the 7800 and not the 8bit... Back to the topic, Great American Road Race is number 1 in my book with Rally Speedway 2nd place. Pitstop 2 and Pole Position get honorable mentions, although me and my dad had some great Pole Position competitions back in the day.
Allas #25 Posted August 10, 2007 (edited) Death race: because is simple and have a interesting font tech as C64 racer games. Good color, good effects and change the scenarios meanwhile you go on. Try to reach the extended time. Multi Race: because is multiplayer and hard to control, good technical engine. I never play this game in multiplayer mode, but I guess should be fun.
