edweird13 #1 Posted August 11, 2007 Why is that lucky. Cause i got the money for it from a scratch off lottery ticket. Now if it will play burned games I'll be real happy.
SINGLE TOOTH #2 Posted August 11, 2007 I haven't run into a problem with one yet. Good luck. Post results.
jimid2 #3 Posted August 11, 2007 We've got two Dreamcasts in the house - it's the only console we have two of (though we've got multiples of many handhelds, like the NGPC, Wonderswan, PSP, DS, Gameboys galore, Lynxes, etc. etc....) Anyway, I love that little system - lots of great games available and cheap to run!
edweird13 #4 Posted August 11, 2007 What are some good RPG's for this system?

JB #6 Posted August 11, 2007 Haven't played Arcadia, but I can cast a vote for Grandia 2.
Artlover #7 Posted August 11, 2007 Skies of Arcadia!! One of the best RPG's ever!! You're a brave person to admit that. Many people are quickly turned off by it's really excessive annoying unrealistic enemy spawn routine that swamps you with a dozen enemies every 3 steps. One friend who had just got it recomended it to me, then a few days later apologizied for having done so. Sadly, I had already bought it for myself. Luckily, I paid only $4.95 for it. 'Evolution 2: Far Off Promise' isn't too bad either if one likes turn based rpg's. I've always hated them myself, but actually enjoyed E2:FOP very much, to the point of spending every day for months playing till I completed it, several times over. The original 'Evolution:The World of Sacred Device' is ok, but E2:FOP is all around the better version. Then there is 'Grandia II' or 'Elemental Gimmick Gear'. If you like Diablo type games, then there is 'Record of Lodoss War'.
Brian R. #8 Posted August 11, 2007 So, how much was that lottery ticket for? And the price of the DC? I have two as well. Only because the original one I bought developed a spontaneous restarting problem that I could never fix. Fortunately the second I bought brand new is still working. Nice system - the most recent I own - and I love many of its games and its overall "feel." But I haven't been using it much lately.

Payed 40 bucks for it I know its alot but i wanted it and had the xtra cash. No luck on the burning yet. I have only tried it with CD-RW's. I dont have any CD-R's. I cant even get the Utopia boot loader to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Any help would be appreciated. CD-RW's don't work. You have to take apart the DC and mess with the laser power level calibration to make it read CD-RW's, which may still not work depending on media used and will shorten the laser life. Thats what I thought. I'm not a stranger to cd images. I get some CD-R's. Should I only use a CD burner and not an DVD burner?

Jess Ragan #13 Posted August 11, 2007 My Dreamcast is a nasty shade of yellow, and I'm not even a smoker! How the heck did it wind up looking like that?! I've got Super Nintendos that are less grody. But er, uh, congratulations on your find! You'll find that your luck is just beginning now that you've got a Dreamcast. Some games I'd recommend include Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Grandia 2, Samba de Amigo, and Capcom... well, Capcom anything, really. There's a pretty sweet sequel to Culdcept [a fantasy role-playing board game] in Japan, but it's very text-heavy. If you've got a Playstation 2 I would purchase that version instead. antron #14 Posted August 11, 2007 I cant even get the Utopia boot loader to work. Any help would be appreciated. I have been able to find self booting cdi images for all the games I wanted. I use the demo version of discjuggler. It will burn CDs, on your burner's slowest setting, but that is what you want.
Artlover #15 Posted August 11, 2007 Should I only use a CD burner and not an DVD burner? Since your burning CDR's, doesn't matter.
Artlover #16 Posted August 11, 2007 Yeah, Crazi Taxi. Tee Off Golf, Dead or Alive 2, Chu Chu Rocket, Shenume, Toy Commander.
edweird13 #17 Posted August 11, 2007 The first game I picked up for it was Crazy Taxi cause I have always heard good thing about it. I also bought Tony Hawk2 but I cant get it to load. I exchanged it for a different one but it wont load either

EricDeLee #19 Posted August 11, 2007 I have not got a single thing to burn for my dreamcast. I have a few different games downloaded...yet I burn nothing but coasters. I'd prefer to have self-booting disks... but I can't figure this thing out
Brian R. #20 Posted August 11, 2007 Crazy Taxi is a great, quick arcade game. But Shenmue is an experience. I highly recommend it. Along with Shenmue II. Propeller Arena is also excellent. It's a damn shame that post 9-11 hyper sensitivity caused it to be canceled because in just one of its many levels, you could crash your plane into a city skyscraper - forgetting that crashing your plane like that is totally contrary to the point of the game! And you should try to raise a Seaman.
SINGLE TOOTH #21 Posted August 11, 2007 I have not got a single thing to burn for my dreamcast. I have a few different games downloaded...yet I burn nothing but coasters. I'd prefer to have self-booting disks... but I can't figure this thing out Yeah, usually the Kallisto releases are not selfboot, but they will work with the utopia boot disk. Echelon releases are usally selfboots. You can tell right away if the images are selfboot or not. Open them up in alcohol or nero and look at the disk information (before you burn the disc). A selfbootable image has to have at least two tracks. The first track is usually a blank audio track about 2 minutes in length. The second track is the actual game data. So if you open the image in Nero and look at the disc information. I had a tough time trying to figure all this out on my own and burned countless coasters, but I hate using the boot disc. I found a good program that allows you to make selfbootable images out of images that are not selfboot. If you want, I could email the program to you. It's called bin2boot.exe. Search for "Bin2boot cdda" in Google and you should find the good version. There are different versions, and some didn't work for me. If you want the version I have, send me a PM and I could email it to you. Just copy this "bin2boot.exe" program into the folder where you have the disc image. There are different kinds of images, but bin/cue are the most common. Let's say the game is in C:\dreamcast. Let's also say the disc you want to burn is sega.cue Copy the bin2boot.exe to C:\dreamcast Open the command prompt (Start>Run> then type "cmd" (no quotes) in the box) Once your in the Command Prompt navigate to the folder where your disc image is. "cd c:\dreamcast" Then just type "bin2boot" and let it work its magic. It may ask you what the image name is. If so, just type "sega.cue" (whatever the name of the image is) then hit enter.Once it says its done, close the Command Prompt. The program will then make a new file called "image.cdi" which you will need to burn with Alcohol or DiscJuggler. This program works for most games. Artlover #22 Posted August 13, 2007 which you will need to burn with Alcohol or DiscJuggler. Does Alcohol "really" work? I've burned my fair share of DC images, and I've found that, for me anyways, only DiscJuggler produces working burns.

I've burned my fair share of DC images, and I've found that, for me anyways, only DiscJuggler produces working burns. Thats pretty much the only program I use to burn DC games. Mainly just because it supports many different images. I hate having to use 10 different programs just to burn games that are all in different formats. deadmeow #24 Posted August 13, 2007 The dreamcast is a nice system for emulation play on your television. I play Stella Atari 2600, NES, and Colecovision mostly on my Dreamcast, and some other emulators. Maybe 10% of the time, I will actually play a dreamcast game. I've burned my fair share of DC images, and I've found that, for me anyways, only DiscJuggler produces working burns. Alcohol 120% always works for me, except for the rare occasion I find a NERO image of a DC game. Then I have to use NERO. The only time I ever got coasters is when I'm burning a game that that uses ISO/MP3 files. I now use Fireburner and that cured that problem. Of course I've never seen a ISO/MP3 for a Dreamcast game. Only for systems older than the Playstation do I see those.
