Asaki #1 Posted August 12, 2007 I've got an old Slik Stik that I love to pieces, but the cable has seen better days. Used to have two, no idea where the other one went. Anyway, I suppose the likelyhood of anyone having spare cords from broken joysticks is probably very low, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
BigO #2 Posted August 13, 2007 (edited) I've got an old Slik Stik that I love to pieces, but the cable has seen better days. Used to have two, no idea where the other one went. Anyway, I suppose the likelyhood of anyone having spare cords from broken joysticks is probably very low, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I guess the question would be: what's it worth to you to fix your Slik Stik? I know where you can buy some new-old-stock Atari equipment with a cord that you could use. I just used one in the process of fixing my Wico trackball. Unfortunately, that site has a $25.00 minimum order last I checked. I'll dig up the name if you're interested. Atari joysticks show up in thrift shops occasionally. You may not be aware that the Sega Genesis controller works on the Atari 2600. You also may not care unless you realize that they must have a cord that would electrically meet your needs. I've probably seen 20 of those Genesis controllers in thrift/used game stores over the past few months for $2 - $4. If you happened to be in Phoenix, AZ I could tell you where I saw one today for 1.49 (25% discount off of that on Monday). If the molded strain relief is compatible with your Slik Stik, one of those cables should get the job done for you. No guarantee the wire colors are the same as in the Atari, but that's easy to deal with. (The wires in that n.o.s. device I mentioned earlier are definitely not the same as in the Atari joystick, but I've documented that one around here somewhere.) Asaki #3 Posted August 13, 2007 Well, I just thought I'd see if anyone had any spare cords, though I knew it'd be a long shot. Worst case scenario, I go to Radio Shack, buy a DB9 female, and find some nice flexible cord.

I'd be willing to let it go for $3.00 shipped. PM me if your interested. (DOH! Just got a new camera -- guess I need to learn how to re-size images.) BigO #5 Posted August 14, 2007 (edited) Price-wise, you'd be better off finding a controller. $3.00 shipped, you're not going to come up with much better than that unless you're patient and up for some hunting. A DB-9 with a hood would be more than that. BTW - depending on what console you have, a standard DB-9 might now work anyway. I learned that after building an Omega Race adapter and trying to use it with my heavy-sixer. Those "ears" interfere with all the extra plastic around the controller port. A.J. Franzman #7 Posted August 15, 2007 I've got a spare or two lying around. I'd be willing to let it go for $3.00 shipped. Prodos8, how many more of those do you have? Alternatively, does anybody else have some to let go cheap? The best deal I can find otherwise for new replacement cables is on eBay from a fellow AA'er, but to get the 5 I want his price comes to about $4.50 each shipped (and that's with his shipping discount!) purdum #9 Posted August 15, 2007 (edited) I have some extra joysticks that came with a Sears game system. The Sears system does not work and was sent to me for extra parts with an atari 2600A. Two of the joysticks are atari joysticks and two of them I do not know who made. They have big yellow buttons and say "Gemstick." All of them work on the atari system. I don't know how much shipping would cost. I'd have to check that out. For that matter, I don't really need the Sears system at all. If someone wants it, I can sell that to them with joysticks and paddles. Edited August 19, 2007 by purdum
A.J. Franzman #10 Posted August 15, 2007 (edited) They have to be new? Specifically set up for joysticks? New or known good (all conductors used by 2600 joysticks = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 ). If the wire colors are different, I can handle that. Also, I have a fair supply of the clips that slide onto the circuit boards, so the cables could end in just plain wires, as long as they have strain reliefs that fit the stick cases properly. Well I've only got one spare now. I had another one from a Wico stick, but recently used it (as the wire was sheilded) for a XM1541 transfer cable. Those Atarilab boxes with the 9 conductor cables that I talked about a while back are $1.00 each. Minimum purchase of $25.00 + shipping puts you further over your budget for 5 units, but you'd have 20 more after you used those 5. I believe the inventory level a few months ago was in the mid hundreds, so they're likely to have some left. The wire colors are different and you'd have to disconnect the cables from the Atarilab boards. The strain relief was identical when I replaced the cable on my Wico trackball, if that's at all helpful to you.

The site/item: http://www.excesssolutions.com/cgi-bin/item/ES455 It isn't an Atari specific site.
