Atariboy2600 #26 Posted August 16, 2007 Just came back from playing my Bioshock demo for the 50th time and I all had to say is "PRE-ORDER IT!" ohman I had never felt this way on a FPS game for a long time (Half-Life days) feeling and unlike thouse other FPS games where all you do is just blam anyone that moves you get to pick how to use combos on the bio-weapon and or guns so in the way is not how to kill them but how many ways to kill them and after this post IM going back and play it again! Gid its like being a kid in a candy store but instead of candys its full of BIO-SERVICES!XD
moycon #27 Posted August 16, 2007 NE146's impressions aside. This game is getting outrageously good reviews. teamxbox.com gave it a 9.5 http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1368/BioShock/p1/ IGN gives it a 9.7 http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/813/813214p1.html Gameinformer 10 http://www.gameinformer.com/Games/Review/2....1203.13551.htm Eurogamer 10 http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?artic...1479&page=3 These review ratings are better than ones given to games like Oblivion or Gears of War. Now I'm not saying we should hold these "professional" reviews as gospel, but it says a lot when the reviews are pretty damn consistant and so positive. Now I'm REALLY looking forward to getting the full version of this game.
IronMongeR #28 Posted August 17, 2007 Played the demo today, and quite frankly this looks to be the best FPS I've played in a long time. The setting and atmosphere is just so unique and works really well! I enjoyed Prey, Condemned & FEAR but this is something else! Will be getting my copy on release day. StormSurge #29 Posted August 17, 2007 The more I played the demo, the more I've read from people who were lucky enough to get the game yesterday ( ), leads me to believe I will be grabbing this as soon as I find one for sale.
PuddWakkr #30 Posted August 17, 2007 I read that Toys R US broke the date by a week. If I wasn't stuck working I would have ran out an got a copy.
Atari5200 #31 Posted August 17, 2007 played the Demo last night and didn't get all into it, but wow. I'm going to try again tonight, and spend a little more time, but from the little experience I had, i couldn't believe it. It was fantastic. I would have liked to have known a little more of the beginning story, on a boat, then all of a sudden in the water like Castaway with a plane all around. I think my favorite thing of the game is the theme of the world is like stuck in the 50's. Hopefully I can get into it more tonight, but me thinks this could possibly replace The Darkness as my favorite all time FPS.
StormSurge #32 Posted August 17, 2007 The Wikipedia entry explains the backstory quite well without giving away any gameplay spoilers. Wikipedia Bioshock Entry
Atari5200 #33 Posted August 17, 2007 thanks, that was a good read and explained exactly what I couldn't figure out from the demo and even after reading that, i find it even harder now not to go out and find this on launch day, despite lack of funds, i guess that's what credit cards are for
Shannon #34 Posted August 18, 2007 Great... Just another game I cannot afford at the moment. I really need to start making a list. Downloaded the demo last night, still need to check it out. Had to delete a few things to get it to fit. Man I need a bigger hard drive.
Gregory DG #35 Posted August 19, 2007 I see there's a PC version. Ah... this gives me more time to wait to get a 360...
Shannon #36 Posted August 19, 2007 Finallly got to play it, although it did hang after my first dose of adam. Anyways I like it. Great atmosphere. Love the water effects, 50-60's atmosphere, the utopian society thinking, the creepy slicers running around, Atlas vs Ryan. Some stuff reminded me a little of things used in Doom 3. You can get pretty creative with the weapon types available but I don't know if I have the reflexes to do anything too fancy. I'm usually beat on a few times before I figure out where the enemy is. Did anybody hack one of the defence thingies? It's pretty neat. Anyone else think Ryan is alive? That room you get locked in near the end seems more like some type of automated defense system rather than a real live person activating things. Guess I'll have to add this to my wish list for now. It may be a while before I'll be able to get it.
BydoEmpire #37 Posted August 19, 2007 I really, really liked the unique setting and storyline, and the sound is phenomenal. Gameplay wise, it didn't seem much different from any other FPS, and I'm not as high on the game as most people seem to be. I did like that you could electrify the water and take out guys standing in it, and I'm sure other plasmids give you similar options. But I'm not sure I'm a big enough FPS fan to pick it up. Albert #38 Posted August 19, 2007 I played probably about halfway through the demo when I had a brief power flicker that reset everything. And since it's just a demo where you can't save your progress, I didn't want to restart again from the beginning just to play to the end of the demo. Will have to wait until the game comes out, assuming I can find a copy. From what I played it is a pretty damn creepy game so far. Great atmosphere, especially playing in the dark with the sound turned up. Lots of great audio if you listen for it, love the architecture, and the plasmids seem pretty cool (although I only have two of them when the power went out). Nothing like running from the damn security bots after you manage to stupidly trigger the alarm. And who places turrets in a bathroom!?!? Looking forward to getting the full game. Until then, back to Gears of War.. ..Al
2600Lives #39 Posted August 19, 2007 More than anything it reminds me of a first person Fallout game. Man, the hacking is HARD. I could never figure out how to friggin' do it.
Mendon #40 Posted August 20, 2007 Not saying that the game is bad or anything, but I just didn't get into it as much as many other people are. I guess after playing so many "dark & gloomy" FPS games like Doom, Quake, F.E.A.R., Darkness, Half Life, Condemned, etc that I'm just not excited by another one. In fact, the only recent FPS game that I have really enjoyed and gotten into was Far Cry on the 360 and I'm sure the reason was because that the game was bright and colorful with the majority of action taking place outdoors. I'll rent Bioshock from GameFly and give it a workout but I'm just not that excited for the game at the moment. Mendon
Atari5200 #41 Posted August 20, 2007 More than anything it reminds me of a first person Fallout game. Man, the hacking is HARD. I could never figure out how to friggin' do it. it's actually quite easy, just flip over a bunch of panels and then keep swapping them around. If you flip over a bunch right at the beginning, it will make it easier to plan it out before time runs out. I think one of the creepiest aspects of the game is the fact the enemies are still human. They interact with each other, they sound somewhat normal when they talk, it just makes it that much harder to kill them when they're pretty much running around and talking to each other somewhat normally. And for everyone bitching about the atmosphere, it's a horror/suspense game. How many horror/suspense games have you seen in bright vibrant atmospheres? Also, if the game was 3rd person, would it make a difference? Why don't you go back to your Wii's and wait for a few months as I'm sure nintendo will bring a FPS full of happy rainbows and unicorns for you to enjoy. Mendon #42 Posted August 20, 2007 other somewhat normally. And for everyone bitching about the atmosphere, it's a horror/suspense game. Why don't you go back to your Wii's and wait for a few months as I'm sure nintendo will bring a FPS full of happy rainbows and unicorns for you to enjoy. I looked thru the posts here and didn't see one that was "bitching" about the atmosphere. I saw posts (such as mine) where people expressed an opinion that the game didn't overly impress them for whatever various reason. But I didn't see anyone (including myself) actually "bitching" about the game or calling it terrible. If I'm currently bored with dark & gloomy FPS games and Bioshock doesn't excite me, then thats me. If you like Bioshock and its dark atmosphere and are excited about its release, then thats you. They are simply opinions and we're both entitled to have them. In the meantime, I'll continue to play and enjoy the dark & gloomy Overlord (I love alcoholic & farting Pikmin) with an occasional round of EDF for rainbows and unicorns. Atari5200 #43 Posted August 20, 2007 (edited) yes there was yourself and others "bitching" which i also use to mean "complaining" about the dark atmosphere in a game that is SUPPOSED to be dark and gloomy. It's bitching because it's "here we go again, another dark and gloomy suspens/horror fps" how dare they make a horror game that is dark and gloomy. The comment shouldn't even be made to begin with because of the type of game it is, of course it's going to be dark and gloomy so why would you say "i don't like the dark and gloomy atmosphere" or "i'm tired of the dark and gloomy atmosphere" when you know going into the game IT"S GOING TO BE DARK AND GLOOMY. I hate to tell you, most horror games are dark and gloomy Answer me this question then, how many resident evil games, Silent Hill, and lets go further back to Alone in the Dark type games have you played and did you get tired of the repeat atmospheres??? 15 Resident evil games later, and fans still are not tired of the same atmoshpere, why is this? The same reason for Bioshock, if your looking at just the atmosphere, then you are not getting the full affect of the game, if you won't give it much of a chance because of the atmosphere, then your probably going to miss out on what may be a great experience based on the demo. EDIT: and for christ sake it's under water. How much light could penetrate that deep under water? I don't know but obviously not much, it's much like complaining about The Darkness being dark and gloomy when the game is called "The Darkness" EDIT AGAIN: i for one do not get tired of the same atmospheres in games, when you get down to it, there really aren't to many differences, you have the cartoony, dark and gloomy, happy and cheery, and somewhat middle ground. But you have to expect horror/suspense to be this type. So for me, if it's a horror/suspense game, i EXPECT it to be dark and gloomy otherwise it's NOT a horror/suspense game. Easy, guy, easy...... (NOTE TO SELF: don't discuss religion, politics, or whether the Jaguar is 64bit or not with Atari5200) Mendon
Atari5200 #45 Posted August 20, 2007 (edited) all in good fun , Religion, i could care less about, so talk away, politics, yes i consider myself active and knowledgeable in todays politics, so I may challenge you if you ask about them, and as always, yes I will always argue the 64-bitness of the Jaguar, it's kinda hard not to when the majority of the games aren't any better than 16-bit SNES games. Flojomojo #46 Posted August 20, 2007 I love the graphics, art design, and atmosphere -- except for the horrow show aspect of it. It's way too creepy/scary for me. I'd love something that looked like this but had more of a lighthearted mood to it, a la Crimson Skies. Can't we have an alternative history that won't give me nightmares? When I played the demo it was actually near my bed time and the first thing that popped in my mind is I hope I don't have dreams about this game. Luckily Viva Pinata (a bright and colorful game!) music was still stuck in my head.

Can't we have an alternative history that won't give me nightmares? zombies normally do it for me, so this game i'm fine with when it comes to dreams. But still, i have to think the creepiest aspect of the game is how "human" the enemies are, especially when you get to the part with the one slicer talking to what you would think is a baby, sad and creepy all at the same time. And the little sisters, c'mon, how do you attack something like that??
+remowilliams #49 Posted August 22, 2007 I finally played the demo (no thanks to my 360 which has 'gone home' ) and it's kick ass. It is beautiful on my PC with the DX10 support enabled. I had the 360 limited edition (that figurine is cool ) on order and got it today, so hopefully I'll get to play it sometime soon.
