Do you ever get tired of the "Jaguar VS X" threads?

I am dead serious here guys. The Jaguar has plenty of stuff to talk about and amazing things going on for it, but all this VS crap must get old. Why the Jaguar? I don't see rediculous threads like "2600 vs XBOX. I don't know, it just seems really pointless other than to get people miffed.

I think some big reasons for the vs. threads are:

 

1. The Jaguar was the last stand for Atari as we remember it... so it had a special place in a lot of Atari fans' hearts. It was the last example of a proper Atari console.

 

2. The Jaguar had a relatively short life and so, was never pushed like other Atari consoles. People want to know what the console would have been truly capable of if given the full support of a big development house.

 

3. People keep claiming that the Jaguar wasn't a true 64-bit system... so people feel compelled to defend the system's specs. It is a question of the promise against what was produced. I personally think the Jag was capable of a lot more... but it is likely to not ever be proven because we'll never have a big development firm trying to make lots of money of the system.

 

I am not tired of the arguments. I find the technical arguments interesting if people can keep it away from a personal attacks. That said, if there is an interesting Jaguar discussion to be had... start your own thread :-).

I think some big reasons for the vs. threads are:

People are delusional, trolls, mildly retarded - or (D) All of the above?

Which is all well and good, but doesn't expalin what purpose a vs. thread accomplishes towards that end.

 

If you want to discuss/defend bits, then create another 'how many bits is the jag" thread.

 

Something like "Jag vs 2600" is just fodder so someone can come in by responce 3 and say 'of course the jag is better, it's xx bits'.

But there are only so many technical arguments to make. After awhile, all you have is another thread with the same discussion.

The Jag is nearly a mythical animal - it's hard to see it's eyes looking through the 68k. The vs. threads let people compare it to more familiar systems.

And currently they all apparently end up in GORF going totally ballistic in technical details that only he seems to comprehend

 

They´re totally redundant IMO. They´re like continuous, albeit new, ways of discussing the most important question ever posed; Is the Atari Jaguar really 64-bit because it looks a bit like 16-bit?

 

It´s getting old.

Jaguar games may be much less graphically advanced and perhaps in some cases, much less playable than those on the PS3. However, the Jaguar does support many colors other than brown.

yes, unless it's a Jaguar vs Genesis or SNES thread, because when it came to Cart games, those 2 systems are basically the only ones that the Jag could compete with, and even then it couldn't get the job done as most of the 2d and 3d games are terrible.

I get tired of the "what games should I get" and "is the jaguar 64 bits" and "just got a jaguar" threads... These threads were actually a breath of fresh air.. even when it did get a little ridiculous... Yeah, let's get back onto the same old boring stale thread that we've talked about 5 million times over... let's all roll our eyes at somebody that wants to make a joke every now and then...

 

So, anyway, what games do you think I should get next?
