Death Due to Shrinkwrap

Recommended Posts

I'm finding a lot of new sealed games that I get these days have been strangled to death by the shrinkwrap. There is a typical death squeeze that the shrinkwrap gives, where the lower back of the box is sucked in and feels terrible when holding the box. I've had to rescue a few boxes that had not completely been ruined yet by the death squeeze by removing the shrinkwrap.

So the question is, when collecting, would you rather have a new, sealed, shrinkwrapped game where the box has been squished to death, or would you rather have a new, sealed, non-shrinkwrapped game where the box is perfect in terms of its integrity? What is more valuable to a collector? I'm thinking the latter.

Any thoughts?

At firs all I wanted was shrinkwrapped boxes but like you I started running into the same thing so went ahead and removed all the shrinkwrap from all my boxed games if it looked like it was starting to get crushed. The shrinkwrap don't mean shit as long as the box is still sealed and any box can be re-shrinkwrapped any time you want.

:) :ponder:

Well, if you ask me, I'd definitely prefer a mint non-sealed game for my collection...because I want to play my games. I think most people would prefer the latter, except those who collect sealed of course, but I don't really understand why those people collect games in the first place.

I have a lot of experience shrink wrapping stuff. It's just part of putting something in the shrink wrap. It tightens up so much that the actual box is compressed along with it. It's unavoidable most of the time, as you always want a nice, tight shrink around the box. It especially shows up with age.
