+batari #3 Posted August 19, 2007 Expect to pay around $5k to get your game made for you. Just a warning: Offering a share of the "profits" from cart sales doesn't fly around here
PressureCooker2600 #4 Posted August 19, 2007 What amount of money do you expect to dole out? Around here, opcode is the only way to go for quality Coleco homebrews.
+Psionic #5 Posted August 19, 2007 Around here, opcode is the only way to go for quality Coleco homebrews. I think Scott Huggins might disagree with that statement.
retroillucid #6 Posted August 22, 2007 First of all I'll not pay tousand dollars.... I plan to split all the profits and pay for all production fees.... I know exactly what I want.... A GOOD QUALITY GAME... nothing less... humm .... .... maybe a team...
Pixelboy #7 Posted August 22, 2007 First of all I'll not pay tousand dollars.... I plan to split all the profits and pay for all production fees....I know exactly what I want.... A GOOD QUALITY GAME... nothing less... humm .... .... maybe a team... First of all, two words: What profits?? You'll have a hard time making any money on selling CV games. This is especially true if you plan to include a quality box and manual with each cart. Nice boxes and manuals are expensive to manufacture. Second of all, as the Idea Peddler's thread explains, just about every CV programmer out there already has a to-do list of CV games they want to code, so even if you throw money at them, they won't necessarily be interested in coding your game, because their to-do list has precedence. Free time is worth gold for most homebrew authors. You say you're ready to make all the graphics for your game, but you didn't even bother to present any mockups of your proposed game in this thread, so how is anyone here supposed to take you seriously? And finally, building a team for a 16K or even 32K game is overkill. One guy can do it all, if he's talented enough. Besides, teams only lead to management problems and bad drama that will give you nightmares. It's funny, I asked the very same question (about how much it would cost for someone to code a game for me) about a year or two ago on these boards, and I got roughly the same answers as in this thread. The only difference is that my question was purely theoretical; I was just testing the waters. I guess the best approach is to learn to code your own CV games yourself. If you have any experience in C language, you can get things rolling quickly enough using the ressources available on the net.

A GOOD QUALITY GAME... nothing less... humm .... .... maybe a team... I don't think programmers make any money off homebrews, from what I hear they are lucky to break even. They take a lot of time to make also.
Snider-man #10 Posted August 22, 2007 First of all I'll not pay tousand dollars.... I plan to split all the profits and pay for all production fees....I know exactly what I want.... A GOOD QUALITY GAME... nothing less... humm .... .... maybe a team... If you're so certain you'll make a profit, pay the programmer up front the $1,000, then rack in the profits yourself once it sells. In other words, no pay, no program. retroillucid #11 Posted August 22, 2007 (edited) Paying 1000$ is not a problem... then I'll take 75/100 of profits... I'll pay all the fees for carts, box, manual ....anyone interested?..... I'm planing to start this project this winter. Someone from Canada? Daniel Bienvennu where are you? Edited August 22, 2007 by retroillucid
candiru #12 Posted August 22, 2007 I'd do it for a one-time flat fee of $2,000. I'll have to subcontract out the whole "code" part though. Any of the programmers here interested in being that subcontractor? I'd be willing to pay as much as $1,000!

Pixelboy #15 Posted August 23, 2007 I'll hack a Colecovision game for $10 and a Coke. You know, I would actually pay to have someone hack Destructor to replace the steering wheel controls with normal joystick input... It shouldn't be that hard for an experienced CV programmer... Tursi #16 Posted August 23, 2007 With some information on the size of the game, I might do it for $1k up front, CDN is fine. But I'd need some details on the scale. I sent a PM but did not get a response. PM me back if you are serious.

Crazy Climber #20 Posted November 2, 2007 I will program it, I will be the "gun for hire" but you will have to pay for my training...... .....
joeybastard #21 Posted November 2, 2007 Around here, opcode is the only way to go for quality Coleco homebrews. You sir, should lay off the crack pipe. Opcode games are quality indeed but Scott Huggins' games are excellent too not too mention Daniel Bienvenu and M. de Kogel contributions. The CV homebrewers in these parts are pretty much all aces. Mark2008 #22 Posted November 14, 2007 Ask and ye shall receive. I would do the cart for $750 I'm a programmer with 20 years experience, this wouldn't be a problem for me. yes, its not that I would consider such a contract normally...but I am working on a Colecovision cart, and it has been quite fun, and it would be satisfying to do one more cart, and get paid for the next one. let me know. Tursi #24 Posted November 14, 2007 I *was* in agreement with him to do the work already, but I haven't received details yet. I think we were planning to start this month. Of course, RetroIlluci, if you would rather take up Mark2008's offer I won't be offended, just let me know.
yuppicide #25 Posted December 10, 2007 I have already put offers on the table of $500 for an Atari 2600 game to be programmed. I had the idea, I'll say what I want, etc. I'll handle the cart making and all the sales, labels, manuals, etc. Nobody was interested.
