phaxda #1 Posted August 21, 2007 Not my auction, but I thought people here might be interested. Just snagged myself a SWEET GE TV off the curb for my new gaming closet and was looking for a remote and found this nice collection of vintage clickers. If anyone here buys this, I'll take one of the GE controls off your hands! http://cgi.ebay.com/Lot-of-27-Vintage-TV-R...emZ290152123740
crunchysuperman #2 Posted August 21, 2007 I remember a few of those from when I was a kid.
phaxda #3 Posted August 21, 2007 I can't believe that: a) someone took the time to collect these (or maybe ran an electronics store in the 70s/80s?) b) the bidding is already at $36.00! I remember a few of those from when I was a kid.
A.J. Franzman #4 Posted August 22, 2007 I can't believe that: a) someone took the time to collect these (or maybe ran an electronics store in the 70s/80s?) b) the bidding is already at $36.00! Then get ready to be shocked when it ends! Just like nowadays, remotes often got lost or broken back then. Today there are quite a few people who collect and restore vintage TVs, like the ones these control, and it's more likely than not to find one that's in decent or restorable shape without its remote. Gregory DG #5 Posted August 22, 2007 Wow. My grandfather's TV used the Zenith one in the bottom left hand corner. The one with the four big "clicky" buttons.
lemoncurry #6 Posted August 22, 2007 (edited) Those ones were cool, they aren't even infrared/electronic, they actually strike like little ultrasonic tuning forks and the TVs listen for the dings! Edited August 22, 2007 by lemoncurry

Yes, and certain ordinary household noises (jingling keys, vacuum cleaner, blender, etc.) can mimic the ultrasonic sounds and cause the TV to turn on/off, get louder or quieter, etc.

I completely forgot, we had one when I was a kid that would change channels whenever someone jangled their keys! Thanks for the nostalgia fix!

SRGilbert #10 Posted August 26, 2007 Neat, my parents had the Sony one (top row, 4 from the left) and it was a "sonic" remote that you could hear it buzz if you put it up to your ear.
