Scumdogg #1 Posted August 29, 2007 (edited) Anyone know much about this game yet? I'm in the market to pick something up for my 360, i was thinking Bioshock but then i started reading about Blue Dragon and it sounds pretty appealing.... i *would* like to have another RPG for the system, and i'm concerned Bioshock might end up being too short for my $60 investment, a la Gears of War. I'm not on live, so multiplayer on an FPS doesn't do much for my replay value. Edited September 29, 2007 by Scumdogg
Tempest #2 Posted August 29, 2007 From the reviews I've read and the clips of it I've seen on youtube, it looks like an average RPG. It's based on the anime of the same name which is really popular in Japan (which helped drive sales there), but it really looks decidedly average. I swear it could have been a PS2 or Xbox game. I was really disappointed when I finally saw it, as I was considering picking up a 360 just to play it. Maybe it plays better than it looks (although it seemed pretty average there as well)? MCHufnagel #3 Posted August 29, 2007 My son and I both played the demo. I thought it was just meh, but my son really liked it. As a matter of fact he's playing it right now. He pre-ordered it with birthday money and picked it up this morning. I'll see what he thinks of it after a few hours of real (not demo) game time. Atari5200 #4 Posted August 29, 2007 I think i'll be getting Eternal Sonata for my RPG fix on the 360, I can't stand Dragon Ballz and the fact that all the characters look like Dragon Ball Z people is a huge turn off regardless of how good the game actually is. Scumdogg #5 Posted August 29, 2007 I think i'll be getting Eternal Sonata for my RPG fix on the 360, I can't stand Dragon Ballz and the fact that all the characters look like Dragon Ball Z people is a huge turn off regardless of how good the game actually is. See, the Dragon Ball half of it is a turnoff for me too, but then there's the Dragon Quest half of things. It's tough when an artist is known so well for two things at such opposing ends of my interest spectrum. It's starting to sound like the reviews i've read may be correct....decent, but bland. Although, maybe i'd like bland in RPG form. I'd rather go back and play any number of old turn-based RPGs than a lot of newer stuff, so it's hard to say... Atari5200 #6 Posted August 29, 2007 i'm a fan of the Final Fantasy series and i believe someone from that series also worked on this game, so I'd be interested to play it for that fact, but god, i hate the style of Dragon Ball Z and hate that series altogether, and that's just something i can't get past to even bother downloading the demo of this game to even try. The demo isn't very good (they just throw u in the middle of a dungeon and you have to figure everything out). I suspect the game is alot better than what the demo shows. I am not crazy about DBZ style either, but I like DQVIII, so I am pretty sure I will like this one.
moycon #8 Posted August 29, 2007 I don't like the art style of the game that's for sure, gameplay wise it pretty much standard old-school, still I will eventually get the game if only because I really enjoy playing RPG games. (Hell I think I'm the only person alive that's getting some play out of Two Worlds) Still I'm way more excited about Eternal Sonota then Blue Dragon
Lord Thag #9 Posted August 30, 2007 (edited) It looks pretty average to me. FYI, if you are worried about Bioshock being 'not worth your money', don't be. The game is amazing, and about 20 hours on your first play-through. You will then, immediately, start another game and play it over again. It's that good. One of the best games I've ever played period. I've found the previews of Blue Dragon annoying. Everyone is going on about how it's going to bring RPG's back to their roots blah blah. Translation: it's a standard turn based rpg with no new elements with a crappy DBZ visual design. Fine if you like that kind of thing, but I'll take Bioshock anyday. Besides, mass effect is coming out in November, and I have it on inside authority that the game is absolutely jaw-droppingly good. If you want an RPG, I'd wait for that. Scumdogg #10 Posted September 29, 2007 So did anybody actually get and play the full version of this game? Because it's pretty freakin' sweet. I got Bioshock and predictably blew through it in about 2 days, luckily i got Blue Dragon at the same time. I'm partway into disc 2 right now...the game is pretty easy but the achievements are freakin' hard. Like, hard as in you're likely to just completely miss most of them on your first playthrough, and they're tied to one-time events. I'm like 22 hours in and my gamerscore for this game is like 15/1000. Otherwise though, the game is great. Most of the characters are pretty likable, the music is fun, and i've grown completely compulsive about checking each and every little thing in the background for items. It's fairly standard RPG fare, but "old" is the new "new", as far as i'm concerned. Frankly it's been so long since i've played a standard turn-based RPG that it's almost like a new gimmick unto itself. My only complaint would be the lack of any sort of dungeon maps, other than the little corner map in the HUD. A lot of them are pretty twisty and it's hard to make sure i've gotten everything. Shannon #11 Posted September 29, 2007 (edited) Isn't there a downloadable update on xbox live that makes this game harder as well? Edited September 29, 2007 by Shannon
Scumdogg #12 Posted September 30, 2007 Isn't there a downloadable update on xbox live that makes this game harder as well? Yeah, i think it adds like three new modes or something. New Game Plus, Hard, and Impossible. Haven't downloaded it yet because i need to haul my 360 upstairs to get it online, and i don't get around to doing that very often.
