Question about sealed Jaguar games....

Recommended Posts

Hello

Just got a large lot of Jag stuff (thank you Decypher) and I am having a lot of fun with it, many cool games. My question is a lot of the games in the lot I purchased are still sealed. I know a lot of times sealed games can be much more rare then opened games so I don't want to do something foolish if they are rare? I don't really want to collect for the Jaguar though, I want to play it. None of the sealed games are really that rare as far as I can tell (AA Rarity scale) and a quick Ebay search seems to show similar sealed games going at a normal price. My question is...

Would it be a bad idea to open my sealed Jaguar games to play? Is there really a big price difference between the two? My research seems to point towards no but I figured I would ask. Thanks everyone :)

As a general rule of thumb, the Jaguar's rarer games were released after it's cancellation (by the likes of Telegames and Songbird) and were never shrinkwrapped to begin with. BTW, these are also many of the Jaguar's best games, so you don't want to miss them....

Most of the games released while the Jaguar was in production are pretty common.

Of the "official" games released for the Jaguar, meaning the ones released during its production, there are probably a few that are worth significantly more sealed than if they weren't.

Of those, I think Alien Vs. Predator probably has the biggest difference. If that one's sealed, it may be a good idea to auction it off and get an unsealed one with the overlays at some point. Atari Karts can also get a little expensive sealed. Defender 2000 could be worth a little more if someone is actually interested in buying it for collecting. Missile Command 3D may be the same way. That's really about it -- the AvP one being the most desirable, in my opinion.

Again, that assumes we are talking about the jaguar's original production life -- that doesn't include songbird, telegames, 3DStooges, Scatalogic, etc.

Well, what matters to you - what it's "worth," or actually playing the game? If it's playing the game, then open them up!

But if you just want to hold a box in your hands while thinking "ooo, this is worth X dollars to someone on eBay," then don't open it.

I'd suggest opening them.
