Now, now. Don't talk crazy. Ask every gamer who only owns the Wii and they will tell you....

You can have either/or...but not BOTH!!

I heard Nintendo despises fun destroying amazing graphics so much that they are planning the Wii2 to be so innovative that it will be a slightly higher clocked N64 with no video out at all!

Imagine how much fun that will be when we are finally free of the shackles of graphics!!

That's lame.

Fortunately Microsoft's there for us. The XBox 720 will have a photorealistic holoprojector, but no input whatsoever. That way the player can't screw up the most perfect game ever with silly "interaction."

I only own the one, and I wouldn't say that. Of course, I'm finally ACTUALLY getting a 360 from my wife for Christmas. Who knew all I had to do was marry her to get such a great present.

As far as the "graphics or gameplay" thing goes that argument gets more and more lame all the time. On one side there are often Wii fans who will defend ANY bad graphics by saying it doesn't matter. Now, it might not matter if the game is great, but if you have, say B or lower material and then add on pixelated, muddy graphics, it's now an F. There's a reason I hate the Ps1 and N64 with an undying hatred (honestly, I will likely rise from my grave just to occasionally stomp on a copy of Syphon Filter or Turok).

However, on the other side are a bunch of 360 (sometimes) and Sony (frequently) fans, who keep calling games like Twilight Princess ugly or claiming the graphics are too bad by modern standards to enjoy because they look like Gamecube graphics. Now, I know many gamers are less intelligent than your average lamp, but weren't we just playing with graphics far worse than that on the PS2, like, in December? Does anyone remember the graphics on the Xbox and Gamecube melting your eyes a year ago? Were Doom 3 and RE 4 really so ugly you had to try not to gag? Calling Gamecube graphics ugly by modern standards might at least be the kind of statement a somewhat mentally challanged cabbage could endorse in 2010, but I think it's a little early to start claiming the Wii has universally poor graphics while the PS2 still has new games selling on it.

Valid points, altho I don't think the arguement is that GC and PS2 graphics are downright poor...They are just sooooo last gen. Considering we are now in the generation after the last generation, playing games with last gen graphics is just plain unhip.

Congrats on the 360, marrying someone to get one is well worth the commitment and vows.

It's really the same reason why the Activision games like Kaboom are so revered on the 2600, yet not anything to write home about on the 5200. On the 2600, the visuals of Kaboom are more than acceptable. But from the 5200 people expect more, and it feels like a cheap and shoddy port.

The graphics on the Wii are not bad regardless of what anyone has said. But, if you think the Wii has graphics on par with the XBox then your hugely mistaken. Take a look at Half-Life 2 or Halo 2 for an example of stunning graphics on the XBox. I am not saying that the Wii can't achieve it or won't achieve it. I am saying the games have a ways to go to get there.

I think that's a poor comparison whatever way you slice it. Arguably, those 5200 games really are something to write home about. They're certainly not as amazing an achievement on the 5200 as they are on the 2600, but compared to many 5200 games, those are nice looking, colourful graphics that run smoothly. It's not their fault that Activision employed God's to program for the 2600 who then went on to work miracles with that particular hardware. On the other hand, I think it's a poor comparison anyway because I don't think, graphically speaking, that the Wii is to the Gamecube what the 5200 is to the 2600. Everyone who focuses on graphics seems to agree that the Wii is basically a Gamecube 1.5 (so possibly it'll top out just above the original Xbox), so expecting much bettter than Gamecube graphics from it is a mistake, unlike expecting better graphics from a 5200 than a 2600. In your example, you refer to the 5200 ports as quick and shoddy and claim that the situation with the Wii is like that. However, the BEST port possible to the Wii would look, maybe, better than an Xbox game, but not nearly as good as a 360 game. Thus, the comparison falls apart, as an extremely expensive, non-shoddy port to the Wii would still look only a little better than a Gamecube game, so it isn't like "quick and shoddy" 5200 ports at all.

In any case, my point isn't that Gamecube quality graphics aren't less nice than, say, the graphics in Gears of War. However, I don't think anyone can claim that Gamecube level graphics are now universally ugly. It's just silly. I don't care how "last gen." they are, they aren't ugly, anymore than Sonic 2 is ugly or Super Mario World is ugly. The claim that they are intolerably poor is largely made by people trying to justify spending a lot more money on a particular console (I won't point fingers), while these same people seemed more than content to have the poorest graphics last generation and the one before.

I'm agreed there, although I think, say, RE4 looks as good as 80% of Xbox games (of course, the other 20% of the Xbox lineup is largely the reason that I bought one), and I imagine the Wii will at least attain Xbox quality graphics before the end of this generation. I'm just jumping in pre-emptively, as I assume, say, before the end of the generation a perfect Xbox level Half-Life 2 port to the Wii will be called ugly by many people, as though somehow it pained us to play Half Life 2 way back in the mid two thousands.

I still play yesterdays Xbox games today, and they still look fine. The Wii on the other hand today looks pretty universally horrid.

Yeah he's right guys. The 5200 version, of say, Kaboom would have to look more like the 2600 version in order to compare that with what's going on with the Wii and the GC. At least on the 5200 the version were easily identifiable at a glance as different. :D

Really there is no comparison. Never before in the history of console has a company taken last gens system and stuck a new controller with it and resold it . That said, the new controller is very very fun playing certain types of games so I'm glad it's around, but I'll never take the Wii seriously. It's just a console to have at the house for when the folks come over. One thing I can't do on the 360 that I can with the Wii is bowl in the living room. I'd have bought it if only for that and I think many many people have bought it exactly for that reason.

So the best one can expect is that this next gen console may one day achive the quality of a last gen console? :ponder:

The Wii's graphics are good enough to me...and I hate to say it, but I have yet to see many games on the X360 that are just so damn mindblowing...

Have you not seen BioShock? That game is absolutely stunning. When the game first started I thought I was watching a video sequence but after a second of it not moving I realized it was waiting for me to move.

If by quality you mean "graphical quality" then yes. But then that's like saying Gone with the Wind is a terrible movie because it'll never have CG action sequences. It's hardly the point of the thing. People need to stop being so limited in their thinking about the industry. Movies have followed the kind of more, bigger, fancier, for a long time, and look at how crappy movies have gotten. In my opinion, some of the best improvements in console gaming since about 2000 (like the introduction of Xbox Live, the Wiimote, the DS, Live arcade, inclusion of a hard-drive, etc) have had nothing to do with graphical upgrades. The 360 is going to probably eventually look poor in comparison to the PS3, but unless something very, very, very drastic happens, Sony's online service will always be ass compared to Live. If I want to play great online games, all the graphical difference in the world won't sell me a PS3 over a 360. If I want motion control, nothing will sell me Lair over Metroid Prime 3. If I want great arcade games with worldwide leaderboards, all the graphics in the world aren't going to make any difference as far as the Wii and 360 go, but the way Live arcade is set up certainly will lead me to prefer it. Of all the reasons I can think of to buy a 360, graphics have a whole lot less to do with it, than the fact that it has the power to pull off great AI and an online experience that I can't wait to make use of. With the Wii, me and my wife didn't buy it because we thought Wii Sports looked like Bioshock, we bought it because Wii Sports looked like fun.

I thought like that during the 360's launch. However, I gave up thinking that way a long time back now. Everytime I go to an EB now, it strikes me how awesome the 360 games look, albiet on a HDTV, which I don't have. However, as I said above, for me that is neither here nor there. I want to play Bioshock, Halo 3 (when it comes out), Gears of War, Crackdown, and Chromehounds online, and that's all there is to it. (Feel free to pronounce that last period when you read it)
