Segataritensoftii #1 Posted September 6, 2007 (edited) I was just thinking about all the games that haven't been ported to GBC, Glover in particular. I've been wondering what an 8 bit version would be like. I think it would be something like the game Oxyd. you would roll a ball on a flat surface, solving various switch puzzles. you could transform the ball, and there would be a few 3D elements. what do you think you're favorite games would be like on a system like this? Try out Smart Bomb on the PSP, then. You might also take Kirby's Tilt & Tumble for a spin. Back on topic, I'd say Qix is a good example of what you'd want in a GBC conversion. Miner 2049er could have also had a GBC conversion, with all the levels from Miner and BBSB. SaGa is a no brainer for conversion. Venturing into other systems, Pitfall 1 and 2 would make great conversions pretty much as they are. You might be able to add a bit more to Pitfall II's music. Anything Starpath would be a good candidate for conversion, especially their later titles that were not widely released. Updated graphics from the GBC would have done wonders for Survival Island (look at how horrible the third stage appears and you will see...) Anything Activision made even besides Pitfall would be a good candidate. Imagine playing Dragster with Pokemon people cheering in the stands... or maybe with Mickey Mouse and company cheering instead. A few 7800 titles would make good arcade conversions...Asteroids, Galaga, Centipede, Ms Pac Man, and others would be awesome if ported over.
+atari2600land #4 Posted September 7, 2007 I have and enjoy SMB Deluxe, Tetris DX, DKC, and Mario Golf for GBC. I've yet to see Qix Adventure for GBC, though. I'd buy it if I saw it and wasn't too expensive.
figgler #5 Posted September 7, 2007 There's a surprisingly great version of Metal Gear Solid for GBC. I owned it once, unloaded it and regretted it since. It's a great marriage of Metal Gear NES and Solid. One thing I always wanted for GameBoy / Colour was Punch-Out!!. But alas.
shep #6 Posted September 7, 2007 Super Mario World on GBC. I suppose it would remind one of that pirated version of World on the NES. You know, but good, and not buggy as hell.
A Sprite #7 Posted September 7, 2007 Smooth animation and 8 bit graphics? Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Runners up: SuperMarioLand 1-3. (GB) Megaman V. (GB) Nemesis: Return of the Hero. (GB) Bonk's Revenge (GB) Metroid 2. (GB) etc
2600Lives #8 Posted September 7, 2007 Second on Metal Gear Solid, DAMN good game, and excellent storyline. Awesome in every detail. I really enjoyed Earthworm Jim: Menace 2 The Galaxy, too.
fishsandwich #9 Posted September 7, 2007 SHANTAE. It's got the best graphics and smoothest animation I've ever seen on the GBC. It also displays more colors if played on the GBA. It came out when the GBC was dying so a lot of people never got appreciate it and that is a real shame. It looks better than quite a few GBA games I've seen in action. I haven't tried PC emulation, but the ROM runs poorly on the N-gage and, more surprisingly, runs poorly on the GBA when run off a flash cart. Very slow! You have to have the original cart to play it correctly on the GBC or GBA. Smooth animation and 8 bit graphics? Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. What? The Gameboy color is faster than an NES and an SNES combined. As you saw in Shantae, silky smooth animation isn't hard to run on the machine. I'm just saying that purely for my own amusement, I'd like to see an 8 bit remix of Symphony of the Night, with tiny 3 color sprites and full symphonic beeps. When did Super Mario World come out on the GBC? But I agree, the Zelda games on it are excellent.. Get Harry Potter and the Philosopher's STone and Chamber of SEcrets for it too. fishsandwich #15 Posted September 7, 2007 You guys haven't been reading the first post... You're right. I've just been babbling about Shantae and totally ignored the topic. I'd love to see a game on the GBC similar to the FX-chipped SNES games. I don't know if it's feasible... I understand the SNES was built with chips-on-the-cart in mind. The Genny did it with Virtua Racing and I know some NES games had some extra chips which is why I'm thinking it could be done. How about F-Zero on the GBA? Maybe a FPS that's better than Faceball? Ryanw #16 Posted September 7, 2007 Both Zelda: Oracle games are fantastic. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. Definitely agree. Not sure if any games really could compare with those on the GBColor. Regular GB games on the other hand, well there are plenty of ones that are better then any game boy color game. Whether you want to admit it or not, Pokemon Red and Blue were just huge! It totally changed my expectations on how a hand held game should be.

What, you mean like this? What is that??? I made those GBC SOTN mockups myself several years ago, roughly one year before the release of the GBA, IIRC. Want to see some GBC mockups of other games that were never released? I've got well over a dozen of 'em in my personal archive.

I could see an engine like this being used for near perfect to better than perfect ports of many arcade/console games Imagine Starfox, Starfox 2, , all the Freescape games, Hard/ Stunt Car Racer, Geograph Seal, Alpha Waves, etc all running at 15-30 FPS with little or no slowdown whatsoever. That's how good this software engine is. I just wish the source code was available... Edited September 8, 2007 by Segataritensoftii
