Some questions about the 360...and Halo

Recommended Posts

Well, I've been holding back on one of these like well...sicne it come out. Somewhere I even have a rant...er....topic about that too. Mainly I want it to play Halo 3 on...and since that's comeing out later this month, it's about time to pick one up.

But it seems the console is rather crapily built, lots of problems with it. So I wanted to know, is any one particular one more reliable than the others? there's 3 different consoles now (damnit, leave it alone and fix the ones you got instead of makeing more)

Oh yeah, uh...I just found out not to long ago, that my TV actually does have HD (720p) though I'm not sure if that's out of the box, or if I need a box. So cool, I can get the uh...whatever version and play in that res anyways. But still no Broadband so no real need for a big hard drive.

I'll still be getting a memory card either way so that's not going to matter. I know a lot of people are like "but the hard drive's detachable...and...." but uh...if I took that to a friends house, how would I get both our saves on it at once? Or can the 360 handle multiple hard drives, or hotswapping? (that'd be cool, but eh..)

If I get the red ring of death on a special edition or something console (if they have those) would I be screwed? Some people make it sound like they send you your old console back, while others make it sound like you get a new one. I have no real plans to get one of those, but eh...nice to know.

Uh...what periphrials can I use with this, I notice it has USB. I've been told that I can't use my own memory cards with it, to bad, but could I use a USB controller (I just like my fatty x-box controller, sorry if that's some sort of sin or something) And I know I can get a HD DVD drive (eh...not that I have any HD DVD's, but their comeing...eventually....I'm mo...mildly sure of that.

Is there a way to get old saves to the new system? If a USB controller would work, then my x-box controller with memory card should techincally work, but eh...Ipll probably end up just starting new games and playing through those.

Does the 360 offer anything to the original x-box (like HD support on all games, or upgradeing, or downgradeing or whatever it's called?)

And since my crusty day one console is duying, I suppose this will become my primary x0box player too, so where do I go to see what works with it?

But uh...seriously, halo3 (and maybe oblivion) is like the only game I'm probably ever going to spend any real time with, if it's even half as good as halo was..

So, uh...well, not questions I guess, just statements or whatever.

Oh yeah, what kind of stuff do I need for this, other than the obvious "more controllers"

Does Halo3 really support 4 player coop?

Is there any differences in the various Halo3 games other than what's packed in? To my understanding, the only real difference is the high priced one has a dinky master chief stature or something? I liked how Halo 2 had the covenant book and the instructions were different, but I think the game and disc were identicle other than that. But the metal case was friggin cool.

Can the coop be played through system link? (that's the only real complaint I had about the original)

And uh...well...that's about it, I guess.

the 360 is a great system, it had a hell of a time at launch but most problems like that can be fixed now.

theres cooling mods and such if yours gets to hot, ( work amazingly aswell). that was the main issue before

not all xbox 360s are bad anymore really, my friends which i've been using for past 2 months works great!

never overheats he has a case mod that has another big fan and it has these LED lights in it which display the temp

( no im not kidding its new too) its flashing red if u needa shutdown ( never happened) red means hot ( never happened)

Yellow green blue you know those colors

its usually yellow if im going on hours on end against friends.

Its a great system though i foundout it sucks for things you can do *coughmods * wise.

:] the game capability issue is a joke seriously. some games don't work on the 360,

But xbox originals are cheap. ( have a crystal one on hold for me)

^.^

And Im unsure about the co op

my friend won't release much information to me about the game. im sorry.

and Oblivion is AWSOME!

the halo 3 legendary has extra scenes supposivly, ( not really worth it dont worry your not missing things)

You should know that's the Microsoft way of doing things. Windows XP has been the most complete OS. Take for example, Windows 98. It was quite buggy. Instead of fixing it, they produce ME. *sighs*

You have nothing to worry about though, they auto extended all of their warranties to 3 years, so if you ever do get that Red Ring of Death, you're pretty much going to be covered.

However, I do have to say, I bet piracy/modchips are low on the 360 now, thanks to the random Red Ring that can happen...

Actually, I just bought a Pro, er..premium or whatever. Just to get it befor halo came out (one of my friends mad a good point, that our local store has very few, and when Halo 3 comes out, all the bloodshot eyed zombies up there to buy it would probably get all the systems to.

Cool, and lookx awsome in 720[

Oh, yeah, I want to know some stuff still.

Uh..was there ever a wired controller for the 360? I was thinking there was, but all I saw was third party ones (though those are probably just as good, but still)

Can I use a standard X0box controller (with a nadaptor or something) to play on there?

Is there a way to get saved games on there from my old X-box? I mean, I know there's no card port (well, original box that is) but the thing talks to Windows right? Can I get it to talk to windows and download my old saves that way? Or maybe get the thing to send files directly through the network port? (I see you can get them to talk to each other, cool to play halo lan parties, but how about save transfers?)

How long does the battery last in the remote? I do know that if the remote dies (gets turned off from inactivity in my case) that it does the same "controller not connected" thing the original system did, so that's good. It came with alkaline AA's (1.5 volt) but is there any particular reason I couldn't use a rechargeable (1.2volt) I mean, their all variable, so I don't think it would matter, just wanted to check.

And uh...what's the funny looking port on the controller for? I got a mike thing, but it goes in the bottome, what's the long grey one on top for?

Oh...and how the HELL do I get the 360 to see a second controller? I got a second one, and turned it on, and all it does is have the light go around in a circle. Is it broke? The first one, I just turned on, and it worked. I figure the second would do the same thing.

One last thing...I read in another topic that haveing the system verticle might cause it to overheat? I mean, it looks like there's vents all over it, and the other end has a hard drive, so those won't be used. Will this hurt it? It's in an open area, and I useually have good luck with my systems (still got a day one x-box, and a first month PS2...so...)

Anyhow, thanks for the help guys

Oh yeah...and Microsoft pulled off Wireless AND vibration feedback :P Awesome

5 days to halo3...am I supposed to count today?

Oh yeah...another NOTHER thing. The things supposed to have about a 20 gig hard drive...right? Mine says 10.3 or something like that...is there anything I would hurt by just formatting the hard drive (if the 360 offers that function at all) It's mostly games and movies I think.

And also...how would I get a game if I was interested in it for the XBL thing? I no longer live where I can get broadband, is there a way to get a hardcopy or anything like that? Or can I load it on a memory card (if I find one of my friends has boradband)

Yeah...thanks again.

There are first party wired controllers. They come with a core system or can be purchased seperately.

Original Xbox controllers don't work, a special security chip is required in 360 controllers so MS can control what controllers appear for the system and earn revenue from it.

Yes you can transfer saves with some 3rd party accessories. I don't have the particulars right now but a quick internet search will get you all the information you'd need.

The thing on top of the controller is where a plug n play recharger goes if you buy one with a rechargeable Xbox 360 controller battery.

As for the 2nd controller, I would imagine it would only be activated if your in a 2 player game, but I don't know. My 360 hasn't seen any multiplayer action besides online yet.

Vertical in my opinion is more likely to cause damage and might block airflow to a vent, I suggest horizontal.

As for the hd, they come preloaded with some sucky music and some videos. Deleting those will increase your usable space, though a large amount of it is dedicated to such things as game caching and emulation profiles and such, but you can free up a couple gigs easily I'm sure.

No way to buy XBLA stuff unless you bring your console somewhere where you can go online with it. You can't just buy them on someone elses system because you'd then have to be logged on to Xbox Live to play them on yours since its a different system than it was bought for. You can buy Xbox Live Unplugged in stores that has some XBLA demos and 5 or 6 XBLA games like Geometry Wars on it though.
