Looking for Halo 2 (to buy or borrow)

Recommended Posts

With Halo 3 just around the corner, I realized I have never played Halo 2. I did play the original game (Mac version, which looked fantastic), but never Halo 2. Does anyone have a copy they could sell me or lend me? The current retail price for a new copy seems to be $30..

Thanks,

..Al

I would gladly give you mine if my 360 didn't scratch a nice ring into it. I haven't even played it in a long while. Counting down the days for 3...

I haven't played it either.

I've found that Amazon is a great resource for used games though.

They have a copy for $13 shipped that says the disk is in perfect condition. (Altho it doesn't have the original case)

I've bought dozens of games from sellers on Amazon and have yet to get one that was DOA.

I left the 360 vertical and it scratched the disc. I looked online and foound out that is what cause most of the scratches. I'll have to pick one up cause it is fun to play even thou halo 3 will be the focus for the next month :)

Oog, I put mine vertical when it started crashing and red-ring-of-deathing thinking that might help it cool better (and this is a newer 360 with an HDMI port). Maybe I'll lay it back down horizontally..

I really don't think it really matters what position the X360 is in. I left my first one laying horizontal and it scratched the hell out of my sons COD3 disc. And it eventually got the RROD.

I keep one of mine hor and one vert, The vertical one is my original premium. Since March 2006 haven't had any issues with scratched disks. (Knock on wood)

The one I keep vertical I use in conjection with a cooler tho...

Just because I think it obscures the vent standing up like that.

There's almost zero question that keeping it vertically reduces airflow. MS should never have put that out there as an acceptable configuration the way the 360 is designed.

That's obviously not normal. You should call MS. The console has a 12x drive so it could scratch a disc if you tilted the drive while it was reading at 12x. You can confirm this with a laptop with a 12x drive too - just put a data disc in and rock the laptop back and forth in the moment after you hear it spool up to full speed. On second thought, don't do that cause you will scratch the disc!

Anyway, what's odd about Halo 2 is that the game is a v1 game, and when it's recognized by the 360's drive, it spools up from 1x to 8x (8x being the V1 drive speed) so it's immmune to any scratches you could normally induce by rocking the console while reading the disc. 8x just isn't enough torque to scrtach unless you are really tossing the drive around hot-potato style while it's reading!

Bottom line - something seems very wrong with your console. I would not put another disc in the drive!

To my understanding, changeing the orentation of any drive, will cause thsi problem. It's the fact that most of the drives use plastic parts, and as they age, and are used, the innards will kinda sag a bit and get set in their ways, and if you change the drives orentation after that, it'll not set quiet right, and will result in nice circles on the disc.

:-o Uh...DaMnIt!!?! So, that totally sucks balls and all, since I liked the look of the vertical setup (and the low footprint) So, am I going ot have to worry about this thing overheating? I suppose I could make a stand to put it on, to lift it a bit to get airflow, but still keep the verticle format.

Eh? Never seen or heard of such a thing. :ponder:

Scratching I've seen and experienced result from three reasons.

1) Using the emergency eject when the drive is stuck in a spun-up condition.

2) Changing orentation while media is spinning because its's gyroscopic which is a problem with the close space between the disc and disc handling/reading mechanics. Applies to HDD's for the same reason.

3) Defective or impropperly assembled drive cases (in the case of top loaders).

 It's an Xbox 360...so you have to be concerned about it overheating regardless of what you do. No worries though. MS will fix it for free if something goes wrong. No big deal at all :)

Glad to hear you got it. I figured once FastRobP got involved everything would be fine.

Personally I liked Halo 2 the best out of the 3. I was/am a little dissapointed with three and think it is just a little overrated. I'm surprised people are not complaining about the redundant levels/running around. Since in 3 it is pretty obvious they got lazy in that regards.

Still... not a bad game, just not as great as it could have been. I think the big thing about Halo 3 is probably the online stuff. So rent Halo 3 and buy Bioshock and Gears of War.

I started playing last night and got to where you are playing the Arbiter, which I thought was a pretty cool twist and I wasn't expecting it. I played as far as the lab complex that is infested with...The Flood, and in particular a room where there's a monster generator. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that "The Flood" makes an appearance in this game, as that was my least favorite aspect of Halo (as well as the extremely repetitive nature of that area). That's when I put the game down for the night and watched Thursday night's "The Office". :)

The game is a bit choppy at times and I've seen a few graphical glitches. I don't know if this is because the game is running on the 360 or if it exhibits this behavior on an Xbox (1) console as well. Also, I played the Mac version of Halo at a pretty high resolution, with a keyboard and mouse. I must say, I *much* prefer using a keyboard and mouse for FPS games. Using the 360 controller is quite a bit more frustrating. You can't turn and aim as quickly, and it's just not as precise. I also had to figure out where the heck the black and white buttons went (for turning on your flashlight and switching grenades).

I've enjoyed playing so far and will go back to it later tonight. I managed to accidently skip past one of the cut scenes, I think the one explaining why this particular lab is infested and perhaps the reason why I'm running through it. :)

Black and White buttons have been replaced with LB and RB. The two buttons above the left and right trigger.

Most of the graphical glitches are really in the game, not a result of the console's BC. I had forgotten too until my wife popped the disc in a V1 console to refresh her memory about the plot. For example, in cut scenes, the faces of the models are blank like store mannequins until the facial textures "pop in" a split second later.
