PressureCooker2600 #76 Posted October 5, 2007 I didn't catch this in thread....so I may be re-asking the same question. Will the European and/or Brazilian non US SMS titles work on my SMS? If thats the case, that opens up a whole new world of games to get. Plus, I read that the Master System is still being marketted and sold in Brazil. Is that true? thomasholzer #78 Posted October 5, 2007 (edited) Famicom alone had over 1000 releases (Wikipedia is never right when it comes to 'total game releases' for a system, except for smaller hardware like N-Gage or so. But I might have been off with 2000+ though, wishful thinking on Nintendos part :-): Das Tokioter Metropolitan Museum of Photography huldigte der einzigartigen Rolle des Famicom mit der Jubiläumsausstellung "Level X". In dieser wurden neben allen 1252 je erschienenen Spielen und den gesamten Hardware-Erweiterungen auch zahlreiche Hardware-Mitbewerber präsentiert. Cybergoth #79 Posted October 5, 2007 Famicom alone had over 1000 releases (Wikipedia is never right when it comes to 'total game releases' for a system, except for smaller hardware like N-Gage or so. But I might have been off with 2000+ though, wishful thinking on Nintendos part :-): The NES and the Famicom are, albeit extremely similar, two different consoles. Wikipedia also has a separate list of all Famicom titles: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Famicom_games I didn't consider Famicom titles either. If you do, the quality balance shifts even more towards Nintendos 8-Bit offerings, since it's mainly text heavy strategy/roleplaying games like for example FF III, Fire Emblem or Famicom Wars that weren't translated. thomasholzer #80 Posted October 5, 2007 (edited) well,to me they are the same, like SNES and Super Famicom. Basically I'm right then ... Famicom/NES almost 2000 releases? >>>>In a fair world maybe, but not regarding a SMS / NES comparision. Sega had no chance against the combined "game designing might" of Capcom, Konami/Ultra/Palcom, Square, Enix, Hudson, Namco, Rare, Irem, LucasArts and others. With that it's just natural that the NES had a better hit/miss ratio.<<<< Only because Nintendo didn't allow them to develop for other hardware with their Gestapo attitude. Those companies would have shined on the SMS. Edited October 5, 2007 by thomasholzer
Cybergoth #81 Posted October 5, 2007 Basically I'm right then ... Famicom/NES almost 2000 releases? Lumped together it might come close to 2000. There's surprisingly little overlapping in both libraries, just look how often it says "Japan only" in the Famicom list. Only because Nintendo didn't allow them to develop for other hardware with their Gestapo attitude. Those companies would have shined on the SMS. I'd think so, yes. Especially Konami had very skilled Z80 people in their ranks, considering their amazing MSX library and their early arcades. They sure would've ruled the SMS
