rxd #1 Posted September 23, 2007 Has anyone had any issues with the last 360 update? Ever since I downloaded it my 360 seems to lockup a lot, which never happened before. Anyone else had similar issues or even heard about this from someone else?
moycon #2 Posted September 23, 2007 I haven't had any issues with locking up. What game are you playing when it locks up?
Lord Helmet #3 Posted September 24, 2007 No issues at all. The update only added support for the big button controller that is coming with Scene-it this XMas. I'm surprised that its giving you problems.
NE146 #4 Posted September 24, 2007 I'm surprised that its giving you problems. I'm not. It probably has nothing to do with the update, and everything to do with your 360 slowly dying there. Wait till you get the red lights o' death and send it in
moycon #5 Posted September 24, 2007 I wouldn't even wait for the RRD if it's locking up. No sense waiting, what fun is it to play a game not knowing if it'll be all for naught?

From what I understand, they won't take it unless it has the rlod. Some people I know with freezing just went ahead and overheated it on purpose with a towel (not to "fix".. but to break it) to fully get the red lights and get it over with

Maybe MS just likes me. Edited September 24, 2007 by moycon
rxd #8 Posted September 25, 2007 Does anyone know for sure what the towel trick actually does? The reason I asked is because after the last update my 360 was locking up constantly, so I called MS. after having me fool around with my 360 for a bit we ended up with the RROD and they said that the 360 needed to be sent in for repairs. So yesterday I figured what the hell and tried a limited test of the towel trick (instead of baking it for 20 minutes I did it for around 12-15 tops). But afterwards presto, my 360 is working fine, no RROD no lockups. So what the heck happened and how long will this "fix" last?
Shannon #9 Posted September 26, 2007 The towel trick heats up the broken solder inside and causes the cpu to reseat itself, or something like that.
compacho #10 Posted October 1, 2007 Where exactly are you guys getting these lockups? The only place I get them is in the dashboard when I'm looking at my friends list. I hope this isn't a sign of something bigger to come.

I hope this isn't a sign of something bigger to come. I think this is due to Halo 3 to be honest. I've been experiencing friends list "lock-up". Its really seems to be more like it's latancy related or somthing busy resources, it will clear with time. Try holding down the "lighted X" button and see if that breaks out of it. I blame Halo 3 because it just started happening and it usually occurs during peak hours. A couple million folk hitting the network and trying to play Halo 3 may be the blame
xenomorpher #12 Posted October 1, 2007 Just had the red lights again. It started to lock up again when I looked at my friends list and when I played Halo 3 online. I just sent mine to MS 8 months ago too. I never had this much of a problem with a console before.

Halo 3 is causing XBL slowdown and lockups. It has gotten better though. Maybe they added some resources.

To clear your Xbox 360 memory cache, do the following: go to the "System" blade and select your console's hard drive. With the hard drive selected, input the following buttons: Y, X, X, LB, LB, X, X. A message will appear asking you if you wish to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices. Select "Yes," and within a few moments your Xbox 360 hard drive will clear its memory cache. Keep in mind that clearing the memory cache will remove all software updates that you may have downloaded for other games, so you'll need to go and download the updates again. That fact alone obviously makes this an advanced technique that could have unintended consequences in the wrong hands. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=c...G=Google+Search Just my 2cents...
