Gabriel #1 Posted September 26, 2007 Since I think it will be theraputic for the next few weeks, this is a thread for people like me who aren't blowing their wad in excitement over Halo 3. At this point, I don't hate Halo. I just don't give a damn. It just doesn't give me a raging boner like it does so many other people. I'm excited over Ace Combat 6. I'll probably be getting the flightstick bundle. So, I still have to wait a month for my most hotly anticipated title of the year. I grabbed Phantasy Star Universe the other day. It sucked balls in one player mode, but I knew that would happen. And it's not worth spending the money on to play online. Ah well, it was cheap. I also grabbed Chromehounds. It was cheap too. It wasn't very good, but since I had just got done playing single player Phantasy Star Universe, it felt like freakin' art. I might get back to playing Bullet Witch or EDF soon. I've been getting the itch to play them again.
moycon #2 Posted September 26, 2007 I haven't been playing Halo 3 because...well I don't have it yet and to be honest I'll probably finish Eternal Sonata and BioShock before I even start it. I know what you mean about PSU. Luckily I paid around $15 for it. It pretty much reminded me of a Dreamcast game. I did play through the whole game, though I'll admit it was quickly forgotten. I got Chromehounds for Christmas last year and still haven't opened it... Is it that bad? Damn now that I think of it, I have several games I haven't even opened yet. LOTRThe Battle for Middle-earth II and Carbon off the top of my head. Halo 3 might have to wait longer. I can understand your desire to play in EDF. I still tend to plug that in. I'm trying to beat the "harder" difficuly. For the life of me I can't understand your passion for BulletWitch. Maybe I just suck at it. I do recall I never could beat the boss on the level after "pussy" (or whatever the lowest difficulty level was) The play through was easy enough, but the boss kicked my ass a half dozen times before I was like.... Screw that bitch. I haven't played it in awhile. I remember not liking it too much tho.
+remowilliams #3 Posted September 26, 2007 I'm excited over Ace Combat 6. I'll probably be getting the flightstick bundle. So, I still have to wait a month for my most hotly anticipated title of the year. I take it Ace Combat is still total arcade action? That's always turned me off to it. I'll take a look at it though. I've got to admit Halo 3 jumped right to the head of my play list. Recently finished Bioshock and Stranglehold and got way into Forza 2 and started playing DiRT. Also started the awesome World in Conflict on the PC. I got a few hours into Metroid Prime 3, but it's been languishing for a while now. In my still wrapped pile is Call of Duty 3, Lost Planet and GRAW2 (not for lack of interest, but primarily time). I get the feeling that at least some of those will get cracked open before I return to MP3. As a matter of fact I have the sneaking suspicion that my in progress Battlestations Midway and LOTR BFME II will be ahead of MP3.
Atari5200 #4 Posted September 26, 2007 i like Chromehounds, but it does suffer from "gets very boring very quick disease" I've played through the first 3 campaigns and haven't touched it since. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, it's graphically good, it's gameplay is good, customization is very good, but every mission is pretty much the same. Roll or walk around, blow up everything, the end. The mechs move too slow, and at least from as far as I got, there's little to no squad based battling. A couple missions your friends helped, but for the most part it's just you doing all the work. I was never really a Mech game fan, I did enjoy Mech Warrior II, so i decided to try Chromehounds because it was on sale, but like i said, it's a good enough game, probably someone who is a Mech fan would enjoy it alot more than someone who really isn't. Lastblade #5 Posted September 26, 2007 I loved Bullet Witch. Admitted, it is a sucky game (clipping, pop up, control is kinda stiff) but the hot girl + shooting everything made it fun for me. Finished it 5 times too for all the achievements. Just finished Bioshock on Hard, great game but no desire to ever play it again. So it is now in Marketplace looking for another owner. Getting H3 (shhhh) this week, but playing the Outfit (not too bad) and Ninety Nine Nights (very repetitive, but whatever).
Atari5200 #6 Posted September 26, 2007 in regards to Ninety Nine Nights, i'm a big fan of hack n slash, I love Untold Legends on PSP, which is rather repetitive, but anybody that has experience with both games, if I like Untold Legends, will I like Ninety Nine Nights? Lastblade #7 Posted September 26, 2007 in regards to Ninety Nine Nights, i'm a big fan of hack n slash, I love Untold Legends on PSP, which is rather repetitive, but anybody that has experience with both games, if I like Untold Legends, will I like Ninety Nine Nights? I would compare 99Nights with Dynasty Warriors, they are basically the same game. If you have played DW, then it is EXACTLY what you are getting minus a few minor changes. UL is more of a hack n' slash RPG but you still have to be somewhat careful about running into a large group of enemies. 99N, the larger the crowd, the faster you should dive in. Gabriel #8 Posted September 26, 2007 I'll probably finish Eternal Sonata I'm holding off on Eternal Sonata for a bit. The demo wasn't bad at all, but it didn't knock my socks off like it should have. It's a pretty major release anyways, so it will be around for a while. I know what you mean about PSU. Luckily I paid around $15 for it. It pretty much reminded me of a Dreamcast game. I did play through the whole game, though I'll admit it was quickly forgotten. I knew it was a game which was really only for online play. I knew it was dual platform 360 and PS2. However: 1) I was unprepared for just how half assed portlike the graphics were. The Dynasty Warriors ports even do better than this. 2) What's the deal with the ghosts in the opening areas? 3) It was just really, really lame in single player. I almost quit the game in disgust because of the stupid plot and the fact that the initial cutscene seemed to drag on forever, punctuated by false starts of walking from point A to point B in order to scroll some text along. 4) I hoped I could at least create an online character without paying my money and signing up. It was a silly hope. I don't know of any other MMORPG which allows such a thing. But it would have been nice to get some idea of the game before having to pay about $17 a month to play it. I got Chromehounds for Christmas last year and still haven't opened it... Is it that bad? Chromehounds is a very standard stompy mech game. You control a slow lumbering robot in a game which predictably tries to straddle the line between sim and action shooter. It's like Sylpheed. It's not so much bad as it's like every other game of this type you've ever seen. Which isn't a ringing endorsement considering how many mech games suck. The main flaws are: it's slow, slow, slow; and your targeting is wonky because your default view gives you no aiming crosshairs where they'd be useful. I will say the tutorial mode was pretty painless. Normally those things make me want to stomp on the game designers with a slow, stompy mech, but the ones in Chrome Hounds were fairly short and more interactive than most. There also seemed to be a good degree of customizability. Damn now that I think of it, I have several games I haven't even opened yet. LOTRThe Battle for Middle-earth II I have this and like it. I got distracted from it and would like to play it again. However, I haven't had the inclination to relearn the controls. Bullet Witch lets me stare at hot secretary ass while killing zombies. Sure, it would be better if she had a Playboy bunny costume, but what'cha gonna do? I played on "pussy" as you term it, because, well, I'm hopeless. I got stuck for a long while at a couple of spots: the battle on top of the airplane and a big open field level which I dubbed "sniper-land". Level 2 was a stinker in that I often didn't have any idea where I was supposed to go, forcing me to resort to the old Wizardry trick of following the wall on the right until I found something interesting. But generally, when the game frustrated me it did so in a way that made me want to come back to it and do better. I found Bullet Witch really easy to get into. I generally don't like FPS games, which is what Bullet Witch is despite the over the shoulder viewpoint. It's accessible in a way that Resistance, Halo, Call of Duty, Shadowrun, and others aren't to me. It doesn't punish me for not eating, drinking, and breathing these sorts of games. Unlimited ammo goes a long way towards making the game a lot more fun too.
Gabriel #9 Posted September 26, 2007 in regards to Ninety Nine Nights, i'm a big fan of hack n slash, I love Untold Legends on PSP, which is rather repetitive, but anybody that has experience with both games, if I like Untold Legends, will I like Ninety Nine Nights? Just download the demo version and find out. It really is just Dynasty Warriors with the serial numbers filed off. I liked it, but skipped it because it felt lacking compared to the Dynasty Warriors games. The characters just didn't have the same flair as Zhao Yun, LuBu, and co. But Ninety Nine Nights looks a lot better than any of the current Dynasty Warriors games.
moycon #10 Posted September 27, 2007 Gabriel and I share one passion and it's Koei games. It doesn't matter how many times they repackage the same game with very minor graphic and strategy tweaks, I buy em up and play em for hours and hours. I really like 99 Nights, probably even better than the Koei games if only because each enemy is an individual. In the Warriors games, enemies just kind of appear and many just stand around like cardboard cut-outs. Nights enemies seemed more alive to me. And the world as a whole wasn't as drab. There is some slow down for sure (Actually I've encountered plenty in the Warrior games as well), but 99 Nights looks waaaay better. The special moves in 99 Nights were also more special, Picking up and repeatedly smacking about 60 enemies for a 2000+ hit combo is VERY satisfying. LOL This game can be had pretty cheaply now. Used copies can be found for under $20. Well worth it. For those interested Warriors Orochi is now out. This is a blending of both Samurai and Dynasty games characters, teaming up to fight the evil Lizard King (That guy from Dragons Lair??) I'm sure gameplay will be the standard, but this title does look a bit prettier than the previous outings. I know when I do get get it, In spite of my growing "To play" list. It'll more than likely get moved to front of the queue. Also Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus will be coming soon. Maybe it will make up for the steaming pile that was PSU. I'm an RPG freak (I'll be playing Eternal Sonata tonight even though I just got Halo) so I know I'll check out this latest installment, to be honest though, I'm not getting my hopes up. MetalSlime23 #11 Posted September 27, 2007 I too buy all the Koei games, especially the Dynasty Warriors games. I bought Orochi over the weekend. I wanted it bad enough that I was willing to put it on my credit card (all this damn games keep coking out while I'm paying for college). It was worth it. There's just something about Yukimura Sanada and Jhao Jun on the same team that is too beautiful to be true. :lust:
MetalSlime23 #12 Posted September 27, 2007 Also, thanks for the non-halo thread Gabriel. I don't see what's so good about Halo. To me it's just another shooter. I made it a point not to be anywhere near a retail store on the 25th.

Do you have any strategies for taking on the last boss? Seriously everytime I play I get killed even on Normal. Yup, he is actually super hard when I first play him on EASY. Why? Because I didn't have the chain gun. Power up the chain up, that's ALL YOU EVER NEED. Here is what I do: Battle begins, he got the shield on. Wait for the shield to break, then just shoot him (you can aim for the left shoulder but it really doesn't matter). His shield might come back on. Wait until you can hurt him, just keep shooting him. Don't bother with magic. Shoot the ghost things that comes out. Eventually, he will run to the other side and shoots fireball. Dodge those as you close the distance, at this point, continue to shoot him. After awhile, your conscience will tell you to kill the snakes. Just shoot his shoulder. I don't think it really matters where you shoot him, you are hurting him anyway. But just to be sure, shooting the shoulder seems to work fine. After you kill the snakes, continue shooting him. When he is ready to die, he will be kneeling down in one end of the stage. At this point, bring on the meteor magic. Just make sure you don't get hurt by the meteors or debris, you can just keep jumping away because the meteors should take care of him. So in short, shoot, shoot, shoot until he kneel, then summon meteor and jump away. Easy as pie.
moycon #16 Posted September 27, 2007 So in short, shoot, shoot, shoot until he kneel, then summon meteor and jump away. Easy as pie. Thats kind of what I was doing, altho I'll admit I didnt have the chaingun powered up at all, and wasnt even really using it. I guess I'll start over and power that up and see if it goes easier. Gabriel #17 Posted September 27, 2007 On the last boss I seem to recall running a distance away from him so he would poop out the ghost things. Then I'd shoot them to recharge my magic bar. After I was all charged up, I'd run up and cast lightning on him. Whenever I was hurt, I'd loiter around him and just be careful while my health bar recharged. There was some range where his attacks wouldn't really hit you as long as you stayed on your toes and did a lot of cartwheels while he also didn't spit out the ghosties. After a few lightnings, he dropped dead.

Chaingun is the most powerful gun in the game, you don't have to restart, you can just keep replaying a particular level to build up your points to upgrade the CG. It is awesome, only drawback is the long reload animation, which you can remedy by jumping immediately after reload.

moycon #21 Posted September 28, 2007 Anyone know if Warriors Orochi has a character creation mode? That would be double awesome. No character creation mode. The is like close to 80 character in the game tho. Like 48 from DW and 28 from SW or something like that. Also seems to me that I saw there was 3 way tag team, I'm guessing this means that you can pick 3 characters to send into battle and switch between them. In other non-Halo news. I finished Eternal Sonata. It's an amazing turn-based RPG. It's weaknesses are what all TBRPGs suffer from, repetitive battles and sometime extremely long cut-scenes. (These can be skipped) In order for a person to get 100% achievements, the game must be played twice since certain items and area's aren't available until the second play through. Also the enemies are tougher the second time through. Looks like I'll be playing ES for a bit more.

moycon #24 Posted September 28, 2007 How long is ES? I wouldn't mind playing it once, but twice I dunno. Just depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you just want to play through the game once, would probably take around 20 hours. If you want to do side stuff maybe more like 30+ hours. If you want to get all the achievements...maybe more like 60 hours+.
