Atarian7 #1 Posted July 21, 2002 I tried to talk some of you into gettign on twin galaxies when the activision quest started and someone mentioned that someone should start a high score page. Now at least one of you has changed your mind about twin galaxies. Is it because of this barnstorming thread and the fact that officials from tg came and visited? ROBERT #2 Posted July 21, 2002 Hello Atarian7: Speaking on behalf of Twin Galaxies as Walter Day's chief referee, we have indeed been reading all threads on this forum and do encourage gamers to not let one thread sway your opinion of us. The ultimate outcome of the thread in question was, for all it's goings on, a positive one in our opinion in that it brought into light a 20+ year olf error that has since been corrected. Stricly in that respect, the thread served a purpose. It was not the intent of hopes of Twin Galaxies that any thread should come to a head like this, and we instead hope that all gaming related inquiries can be handled with accord and due process. That aside, we are always striving to provide the best possible service for gamers worldwide, and encourage all interested gamers, both for the Atari 2600 and any recognized gaming platform, to not let a single thread determine your overall opinion of what Twin Galaxies is all about. And at all times, we are always pleased to accept new and higher scores from players worldwide. Cheers !! StanJr #3 Posted July 22, 2002 For me, it REALLY helped to talk to the guys from TG. Before that, the whole thing seemed totally unreachable, in my uninformed mind the records were insurmountable, the record holders were all career guys like Todd who had been playing video games for 15+ years, and the refs were just some dudes in striped shirts. Now that I have had an opportunity to talk to the guys at TG and see that not everything is as I had made it to be in my mind, I'm much more interested in the organization and its goings on. So sadly, I succumbed to the thing I hate the most: Ignorance. But fortunately I have over come it and a new world is open to me. I still like the Activision quest, though, cause it pits us here at AA against each other, not just against those lofty records at TG.
ROBERT #4 Posted July 22, 2002 Hello fellow gamers: I have to thank StanJr for his assessment of the TG officials. Many of us our, as you put it, career gamers, playing since the 70's, and in 1 or 2 cases from before that (like me). We're not an assortment of data drones who simply like to track scores. Rather, we are a collection of gaming-savvy players who have made it our passion to track these scores as a hobby and to provide a service to our fellow gamers. Walter Day's vision started it all, and his current array of referees, editors and consultants will help make this a constant reality and resource for our fellow gamers worldwide. We are real people, each with real-life pressures like work, family, mortgages and bills, so this is not a 24 hour a day task for us, but we give our all as much as possible in the free time that we have...that is up to the point that those of us with spouses and significant others are ready to hit us over the head with our joysticks !! Nothing pleases a TG referee more than to see that a gamer is industrious and skilled enough to attempt and break a world record. To us, that's the equivelant of a baseball fan seeing a home run hit by their favourite team in a key game. Always has been and always will be, in our ongoing quest to track worldwide video game and pinball records. Other than an Age 13+ age requirement, all gamers are welcome to submit scores to the assigned platform referees for score evaluation and recognition. The score need not be a world record...just one that you have taken the time to achieve and submit. All that we ask is that gamers make earnest attempts in their scores prior to submission. What does this mean ? As much as we enjoy giving all gamers their due recognition for scoring performances and submissions, there are only so many referees and so much time in the day...so realistically, if a gamer were to send us a hundred scores in the realm of, for example....Asteroids 500 points, Space Invaders 50 points, etc...there is a practical reason that I asked for earnest attempts...each score takes some time to set up, thus a hundred takes that much more. Basically, we ask gamers to submit scores not for the purpose of simply seeing their name in their due to quantity of submissions, but rather to submit scores for the love of the games being submitted, or at least for the challenge of them...or both !! That being said, we look foward to receiving scores and contest participation from all interested gamers.
