Using a profile on multiple 360's..

I'm sure some people already knew this, but it took me a while to figure it out so I figured I'd post it here.

 

We all know that when the 360 came out MS was bragging about how you can take the hard drive and pop it out of one 360. Take it to a friends and put it in theirs with ease. Well I ran into an issue where the destination 360 complained about the profile being invalid and needing to restore the profile from xbox live. Restoring a profile can take up to ten minutes. Painless indeed.

 

Well anyways it turned out that the easiest thing to do was purchase a memory card and "move" the profile over to the card. Doing this eliminated the xbox live annoyances. So I did this for a while, but unfortunately some games (cough*rare*cough) will not let you copy game saves over to the memory card. So one day I tried the hard drive AND the memory card and surprise surprise! We were able to access the game saves AND no complaints from live anymore! Woo hoo!

 

So for any of you who are considering doing this, that is the way to do it.

I hate the fact that you cant move some game saves to the memory card. Really stupid.

Also the older 64 Meg memory cards can be found for about $15 on Amazon. These things are essential if you have more than one 360. Your profile takes up less than 1 meg. (Unless you have mad achievements) and the 64 megs holds plenty of gamesaves.

The newer (largest) memory card also contains a full version of geometry wars evolved.

Some games on the Gamecube had this same problem. You couldn't move or copy gamesaves from some games. I can see the no copy aspect on some games (Pokemon), but the not being able to move a save is stupid. And the X360 has no games that warrant this kind of security.
