scrumpy #1 Posted July 21, 2002 Starting to pick up some of the 2600 games I used to have many years ago from a number of sources. Now, like most people I try to pay as less as possible for anything and use some common sense when it comes to paying a little more than £2-4 per cart. Has anyone put together a list of carts with suggested pricing? depending on country, condition, and rarity? I'm sure it would help those like me. Perhaps (only a suggestion!) AtariAge could add a few fieds when those people who have bought a cart could input the price they paid again, and over time we could see an average price appear? Any thoughts... I'm spending about 1-2 UK pounds per cart, and only boxed if I can help it. How do we go about elevating this to the AA site owners and perhaps make this happen? scrumpy #5 Posted July 23, 2002 i think thats a good idea im sure most of us have all over paid at one time or another 4sure chap. Just looking for a black 2600 boxed at the mo and the all seem to be going for about £100 UK pounds! Think this could help out there and normalise some of these inflated costs I'm seeing. chrishind #7 Posted July 25, 2002 As a rough guide US $8 is 5 pounds sterling. so your 100 pound 'Vader' comes in at $160 - not cheap. I got mine at a Boot Sale for 3 pounds a couple of years ago
PackratVG #8 Posted July 25, 2002 In my opinion, one of the most reliable ways of knowing how much a cartridge should cost is checking out several of the more popular online dealers. You'll notice that for most games there's a general price range. Check out the "dealers" section in the links section of this website. Jarett

Think the best thing would be first to see what the AA guy's think of the idea, if it can be incorporated in the AA site then I personally feel thats the best thing. Let's do that and see what happens.
Alex #10 Posted July 25, 2002 Certainly it can be done, and it's something Albert and I have actually discussed before. Done responsibly, this would be a fantastic resource, but there is much potential for abuse. Another thing to consider is whether or not we would allow unmoderated additions or if each submission would need to go through an approval process. I don't think we have time to monitor such a thing, with all our other duties and plans for the site. We might start by allowing user reviews or ratings of games, which are subjective by nature and wouldn't need as much moderation, and see how that goes. iguana #11 Posted July 25, 2002 I think it could be abused but I doubt most would. You could simply link somhow to the cart list here and simply have a dropdown box for what you paid. I.E. click on the Combat cart in the rarity guide and pull down the options, maybe like $1-$4, 5-9, 10-14,15-24,25-49,50-74,75-99, over 100. then just have it do a statistical breakdown of the results to give an price. of cource I know nothing of computers so you can tell me to go to hell! chromizone #12 Posted July 26, 2002 hey alex thanks alot for looking at scrumpy's and my idea and replying its nice to see the moderaters on here lol well y would people abuse it??? they would just be wrecking there own resorce and plus dont u think this type of thing is worth the extra time???maybe u could even bring in other people to moderate just for that purpose alone ... just my thoughts... -cheers
Alex #13 Posted July 26, 2002 I can tell you with almost certainty that it would be abused if we left it open to general public realtime submission. There are two types of abusers - the random immature people who just like to mess things up (and trust me, they will be there), and the people who want to inflate the value of their games if possible. I do see the possibility of allowing a certain group of moderators to make submissions. I'm sure some people will see that as exclusive/elitist, but it's really the only way to make it reliable. As for the technical implementation, it would certainly be worth doing, but it isn't trivial. Right now we are busy preparing for CGE, then we need to catch up to our backlog of submissions and other work from the past few weeks, then we could look at something like this. In other words, we like the idea but unfortunately it isn't going to happen any time soon.
chromizone #14 Posted July 26, 2002 well thanks again for looking and replying but what if me and scrumpy were to do this on our own u know we would be the moderators on a different page and u could just add a link through your page would that be considerable?
