Creepiest video game ever.....

Recommended Posts

Very first game I can remember freaking me out was Space Hulk for the 3DO, all I had was the demo disc so I don't remember much about it. Next would be the Resident Evil Series (especially Code Veronica) and I still can't play Doom 3 or Resurrection of Evil with the lights off for very long.

Haunted House for ATARI 2600 actually scared me as a kid when I first played it. But in the modern era Silent Hill 1 really scared the crap out of me with those wierd children. Resident Evil 1 also was a creepfest with the first appearance of those dogs.

Hmm, there are a few good scary game moments. The first time I played the original Half Life, and you walk by that office with the headcrab zombie in a dark room with a flickering monitor, while the zombie sits in a chair freaking out.... I remember going 'god DAMN that is disturbing...' Same goes for the second game. Those headcrab zombies and their disturbing 'why! why! why!'. Especially when you torch 'em :D Good stuff!

I also thought Doom 3 had a lot of 'jump out of your chair' moments.

AvP still makes me jump. Damn facehuggers :x

Thats Easy. The Grandfather of all thats truly Creepy in Video games if you ask me and

is my All Time Fav Arcade game and I play it today on NES.

CHILLER

Nothing like shooting the heads off nude, hald dead and dead people. throw some rats in, Torture devices and By far you have the Creepiest of all time. This was when games like Karate were considered violent. They all became tame when Chiller came on the scene and if you ask me, it opened the door for the rest. So Creepy that no one wanted to claim it as their own when it was produced. Now thats creepy!

Happy Halloween ;)

C-64: Friday the 13th

PS1: Doom, Resident Evil

PC: Doom 3

I haven't really played the Silent Hill games but I'd suspect those would be up there.. The new Jericho game on the modern consoles looks pretty creepy.

Ok, now that you've mentioned dinosaurs... just about every game with a T-Rex messes with me.

The first time the T-Rex came up and grabbed Laura Croft in Tomb Raider I just about jumped out of my skin. Wolves, lions, bears, crocodiles and raptors... no problem. T-Rex... OH CRAP!

Dino Crisis for the PS1 had several T-Rex scenes that made me jump but not as much as Tomb Raider.

But then I don't think that's "creepy"... more of a fight or flight response.

Creepy is that damn howl from American Werewolf in London that sends chills down your spine no matter how many times you watch it. Creepy is watching someone get stalked through some thing's eyes. Creepy is having a character get stalked by an Alien in some dark tunnels and letting the suspense build.

Silent Hill, Undying... creepy. Dino's jumping out every minute... just action.

Now if you knew a dinosaur was tracking you and you spend a half hour playing cat and mouse... might be considered creepy. But just jumping out at you... nahhh.

Someone want to take any Friday the 13th, replace Jason with Michael Jackson and the chain saw with kid sized sex toys? Now that game would be downright scary to all little kids.

I think I'd have to say Resident Evil for Gamecube was the creepiest game I've ever played. With all the new scenery and those Crimson Head f***ers rising up at the worst possible times, and Lisa running around out there, and all the new light shed on the background of the mansion and the history of the T-Virus...I doubt Wes Craven could do that good.

AvP for PC had its moments, as did even the later levels of Alien3 on the Genesis, when you're in the hive with creepy death music and you can't see the aliens crawling out of the floor until they've already pounced on you. There should have been a hive scene in the actual movie!

Even Tunnel Runner on the 2600 was pretty intense when I first played it. Haunted House, too.

Fighting the Cyberdemon in Doom without cheats was a pretty scary proposition back in the day, as well.

Now that I think about it, MYST is a pretty creepy game...and boring...and confusing...and..:D :P

How dare you! Myst Rocks! I much prefered the console versions over pc though. I did Myst on the 3DO and Riven on the PS1 and Myst III and IV on my Xbox.

Another game that was scarier than Resident Evil to me was Dino Crisis for the Dreamcast. It freaked me out when you'd enter a room and could hear a raptor or something worse running towards you but the camera wasn't pointing the right way so you couldn't see what it was or where it was coming from.

Mangia---that poor fat kid.

And who could forget that Intellivision game "Deliverance"?

There was also a game called "Altered Altar Boy" put out by Vatisoft, but it didn't sell well.

killingtime for 3do. that game back in the day nearly gave me a stroke. it had some really good scare plays. one of my favs for 3do.

silent hill was great. and of course resident evil. the first dino crisis was also pretty good at getting a jolt out of you. especially with the dinos being able to just bust through walls and such at random. kept you on your toes.

I agree with what many others have said (Silent Hill, Resident Evil). One I haven't heard mentioned is System Shock. I thought that was a very creepy game.

Oops, I just posted about this in the scary movies thread.

Oh well, again I say Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

I keep seeing Resident Evil being mentioned...I've been playing through it, and it hasn't scared me at all yet, I just get annoyed when there are zombies around the corner that Jill should be able to see, but you can't see because of the fixed camera >_< It's a good thing the DS version has an auto-aim feature, or I'd probably die twice as often as I already do.

One I haven't heard mentioned is System Shock. I thought that was a very creepy game.

Crap, I forgot about that. Haven't really played the first one much, since it's hard to get the thing to even work, but #2 was scary as crap. Not quite as scary as CoC, but it's up there for sure. System Shock 2 also gets an award for having the scariest spiders in any game I've ever played.

Thief 2 had a few scary moments as well, but most of them are when you think the coast is clear, and you're grabbing some loot, and suddenly a guard that you overlooked sneaks up behind you and yells >_<

Or even worse, zombies =(
