rxd #1 Posted October 25, 2007 So I sent my 360 back to fix the RROD 2 1/2 weeks ago. When I did I went to Best Buy figuring I'd get a PS3 and Resistance for the meantime. The salespeople there told me to get a Wii instead, because they had them in stock and they were much better. Well I figured what the hell, everyone is saying how great the Wii is and how they can't even find one, I might as well pick one up with another game.... Now I'm not trying to start a flame war here and I'm certainly not saying the Wii is bad, but I don't see what all the fuss is. I find the 360 far superior. Don't get me wrong, the Wii is a worthy console and a really nice change of pace, but thank god my 360 is back.

When my faithful 360 finally started having problems, I STILL didn't play the Wii when it was gone. The PS3 and the PC got some love instead.
moycon #3 Posted October 25, 2007 Yeah I have to agree with you rxd. I like the Wii, but not for everyday gaming. It's more like a novelty to break out when the elders and non-gamers come over to the house.
JamesD #4 Posted October 26, 2007 (edited) I don't have any of the new consoles so I'm not exactly what you'd call a fanboy. All three companies annoy me. The Wii has some fun party type games but frankly... too much Mario, not enough stuff I like. I really want to like the system and I'd probably pick it before the Sony... but I don't want kids games. Oh yeah... btw, hate the white but it beats the hell out of the ugly cube. I do have a PS2 (silver) but the PS3 doesn't appeal to me. I think Sony was trying to leverage the platform for BlueRay sales and I don't care to pay the required premium. Hell, if BlueRay becomes the standard... <shudder> all we need is Sony in control. Ever price a memory stick? No thanks. If I get an HD video player of any kind it will have HD-DVD and BlueRay. My PS2 also annoys the hell out of me when some games won't save to my 64MB memory card. Man I hate proprietary crap designed to nickel and dime you to death. Now talk of a stripped down version that removes some things to make it cheaper? Bite me Sony. X-BOX 360... as much as I hate Microsloth I think I'll end up getting one. It has the type of games I like and the earlier intro certainly hasn't hurt the number of titles. Just one thing... I hate the white. Silver or black to go with TV's please. Guess I'll need to pick out a replacement faceplate. Hmmm... nickel and dime B.S. again. I'll probably wait until the HD-DVD is built in since I just barely purchased the PS2. Edited October 26, 2007 by JamesD

JamesD #6 Posted October 26, 2007 Just one thing... I hate the white. Silver or black to go with TV's please. Xbox 360 Elites are black. Kinda expensive premium to pay for black don't you think? Oh... it's noir? Well then... that's much better.
JamesD #7 Posted October 26, 2007 (edited) Well... that is kinda sexy. [edit]All but the green parts anyway. Edited October 26, 2007 by JamesD
moycon #8 Posted October 26, 2007 Kinda expensive premium to pay for black don't you think? Oh... it's noir? Well then... that's much better. I guess that depends on what you consider expensive. I snagged one so I guess I don't. I used to spend more money on ciagrettes a month then the extra cost of an Elite. Glad I quit. Last time I checked you also get a 60 to 100 Gig upgrade, is that considered noir?

Shannon #11 Posted October 26, 2007 (edited) Don't forget the fancy new pink (blech) and easter blue controllers. Oh, and here is a black controller as well. They even sell matching battery packs!! That being said there is also the puke green Halo special edition!!! Edited October 26, 2007 by Shannon
Atari5200 #12 Posted October 26, 2007 i'm the same way when it came to the Wii, thankfully a few of the stores had the kiosks set up that you could try the wii first. Was not impressed at all, and the controller, well at least at the placed I played, were extremely sporadic.
Red 5 #13 Posted October 26, 2007 I haven't even turned on my Wii in many many weeks so I can relate. I got it for Zelda, and so far there has been not one game other than Zelda that has held my interest. I thought Paper Mario was good. Wii sports is a novelty at best. With games like Halo 3, BioShock, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, Beautiful Katamari, Mass Effect, and Eternal Sonata all out for the 360 this Christmas season, I am desperately looking at the Wii to pick up something... ANYTHING... and all I can see that looks even slightly entertaining is Mario Galaxy. For me, its novelty has worn off and now I want a good game to play. (Metroid is on the radar too, but BioShock, Halo 3 and soon COD4, it may be very pale by comparison.
Gabriel #14 Posted October 26, 2007 thank god my 360 is back. Glad you got your 360 back from the land of dead consoles. Did you get your actual original console back, or a refurb?

MCHufnagel #16 Posted October 26, 2007 Since I had a Best Buy warranty, I just returned mine for same day service. One of the few times I purchased a warranty too.
Scumdogg #17 Posted October 26, 2007 Agreed as far as the Wii goes. I got Metroid Prime 3 in a buy 2-get 1 sale with Bioshock and Blue Dragon a while ago. Still have not put Metroid in. Even once. I think i've honestly used my Wii more to browse news while eating lunch than i have to play games. My wife played it a lot when we first got it, but now she spends way more time on the 360 herself. So then why are so many people going crazy over the Wii? It's a nice system but why all the shortages and why are there so many people searching high and low for this system? I can't imagine why anyone would go to such extremes to get a Wii at all. Is it just a huge hype job by Nintendo? Like I said it's not that it's a bad system, but why all the fuss? I see messages from people who have been searching for months for one. I just don't get it....

I see messages from people who have been searching for months for one. I just don't get it.... I think it's popular because it's easy to pick up and play. Everyone tries out Wii-Sports first and it has a very natural feel to it, an added bonus is it gets people off the couch and excercising a bit, plus it's good fun. My folks and my girlfriends folks both wanted one after trying it out. Things is, I guarantee thats all they would use it for was Wii-Sports. That is why I think Wii games sales aren't all that. It's one of those things where you try out Wii-Sports and our like, hey this is kinda cool. Just like in real life I act like I'm swinging a bat, and the onscrene me does the same!! That really is neat, unfortunately the Wii's unique controller really doesnt translate well to most games. Have you played Carnival? That's a good example. I thought that game would rock....we played it one time about 3 weeks ago and were like...Ho-Hum. Wii-Sports is still good fun to me, but it's something that can be broke out a party like Yahzee or Boogle...not something I'd wanna play everyday. My GF and I used to play Wii everyday for the first couple weeks I had it. Usually Wii-Sports. Now....In spite of having about 7 games for the thing. We rarely break it out and play together. She's usually playing Puzzle Quest or Viva Pinata or Solitaire. I bought two 360s so we wouldn't have to share! LOL
JamesD #20 Posted October 26, 2007 Don't forget the fancy new pink (blech) and easter blue controllers. Can you say Gamecube? Oh, and here is a black controller as well. It's NOIR dammit! Everything used to be NOIR so it sounded cooler. Now it's just black. They even sell matching battery packs!! That being said there is also the puke green Halo special edition!!! Puke is an understatement. I looked at it in the store and told the salesman it would go nicely with my chamo themed living room.
+HammR25 #21 Posted October 26, 2007 I played Wii sports when I visited my brother and I was underwhelmed as it only seemed good for parties. I also love college sports games and you'll never see another one on a Nintendo system.
Shannon #22 Posted October 27, 2007 Well on a more serious note. I think the big problem with the Wii is no one has really come up yet with that must have title (like Wii sports) that really takes advantage of the new controllers. You'd think by now that someone would have come up (at least) with a bowling, baseball, and golf game that compared with Wii sports. From what I understand the MLB Power Pro's is pretty decent. Also compared to the 360 (and PS3) the Wii is just plain ugly. I have the Wii hooked up to my hi-def tv thru composite and it just does not even compare to 360 titles. On the other hand though the PS3 is nearly as useless at this point. But eventually must have titles will start coming out for it.
Lord Helmet #23 Posted October 27, 2007 Well on a more serious note. I think the big problem with the Wii is no one has really come up yet with that must have title (like Wii sports) that really takes advantage of the new controllers. I agree 100% The Wii has a ton of potential, and not just as a "party game system" which is what it has become around my house. I really like the Wii...if fact, I wish I could say that I love it...but it just isn't there for me yet. It is a great #2 system. It can't hold a candle to my 360 for playing time though. My wish list for 360 games runs about 15-20 games deep. My wish list for the Wii is about 4 or 5 deep, if that
MCHufnagel #24 Posted October 27, 2007 Well on a more serious note. I think the big problem with the Wii is no one has really come up yet with that must have title (like Wii sports) that really takes advantage of the new controllers. This more or less has been a problem with Nintendo since the N64. Nintendo makes a controller that it's people feel comfortable with, but 3rd parties have some difficulties with. But I do think the comments about 3rd parties not putting their "best foot forward" with the Wii are true. With a huge user base, these companies will practically be forced to use their AAA teams to develop for the Wii.
