bergbros2 #1 Posted October 26, 2007 This is not a worst DC game thread but a game that had great promise only to be dashed by shoddy performance. I loved the idea of Expendable which would have been the next generation twitch game in the line of Smash TV, Robotron and Total Carnage but was done in by the most maddening lack of precise control ever. These types of games require absolute control for them to be any good and you can't constantly have to think about it. Expendable was the complete opposite. And it was a shame because the graphics, varied weapons and enemies and over the top violence would have made Expendable a real kick ass game.
A Sprite #2 Posted October 28, 2007 (edited) Oh, why not? Dreamcast died too soon, but sometimes it tied the noose to the ceiling fan. Shenmue is my pick. An entire town to explore, layers of detail giving it life even when nothing is happening... And Ryo has the personality of a walking ATM machine. He's always there when you need him. He's great at giving away money. Polite to the elderly. Kittens love him... But he has a girlfriend. You know this because she tells him, often. He dosen't know this, because he's not paying any attention to her. The violin hits, the stars are beautiful, they show enough raw emotion to be respecting a restraining order from seperate zip codes... And you have to ask yourself whether this was written by a 7 year old. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gddJpH9R0Mo Edited October 28, 2007 by A Sprite

spacecadet #4 Posted October 28, 2007 Shenmue wins hands down. That game was hyped up as if it was going to change paradigms. They said gaming would never be the same, that it was going to create this wide-open world where you could do anything you wanted. Eventually, the game came out and we all realized that what that meant was that you could buy a collection of capsule toys. Not to even mention the slow pacing and laughably bad English voice acting. Atarifever #8 Posted October 28, 2007 (edited) Disappointing + Dreamcast = Logical fallacy I... uh... I don't understand the question. Did you spell the word Playstation with a bunch of the wrong letters in the wrong order somehow? The way it is now it doesn't make any sense. The Dreamcast is a great system but there are bad GAMES in any system. I love the DC but I am not blind to the dogs in the pack. Spirit of Speed anyone? Like the dreamcast, there were many ambitious games that fell short of expectation.

To those who don't know, it was a racing game based around 1930s-era cars. It handled about as well as one of those handheld toys with the scrolling loop of paper and the plastic car that you could slide back and forth. NintendoDieScreaming #12 Posted October 29, 2007 What was it called? "Mars Matrix" or something? That game looked so cool but what so unbelievably hard.
Scumdogg #13 Posted October 29, 2007 What was it called? "Mars Matrix" or something? That game looked so cool but what so unbelievably hard. You might be doing it wrong. Mars Matrix is one of my favorite games on the system. I remember being disappointed by Floigan Bros. That game was hyped up to be way more innovative than it was. Mars Matrix is one of my favorite games on the system. I agree, and it's nothing personal; read some guides or something about the strategy of Mars Matrix, it is a little different from other shooters (but remarkably hard, you are correct on that point). My brother and I had a blast with it when it was new.
