Crysis single player demo is out

Recommended Posts

And it looks fantastic. This is the first game I have tried with DX10. I am defiantly going to buy this one. It is a huge download at 1.8GB. Just a warning if you have a slow connection.

 I wish my PC could handle this beast, but its three years old. I'm hoping it will port over to the 360 or PS3. The game looks amazing.

Ive been playing this and its awesome. Every last leaf of it.

I cant get it running smooth with AA though. Best smooth performance I can get is all details on high at 1600x1200 with no AA. AA just kills it on any resolution which is not to bad because it looks like a CGI movie without it!

Mowing down the palm forests with those Humvee-mounted machine guns is great fun...doesnt look much different to the old painless scene from Predator movie!

...and any game that lets me use a live chicken as a weapon has to be a good thing in my book.

Roll on November 16th...

XP users should like this...

DirectX 10 features only being available on Vista is utter bullshit, apparantly. Edit 10 config files and you get Crysis in all its DX10 glory under XP (so long as you have a DX10 card)

Ive done it and it works, beautifully.

Interesting, and I don't doubt the graphical improvement, but AFAIK you're not running any DX10 specific (i.e. SM4) features under XP for a large variety of reasons.

I dont know anything about the technical aspects of it although yes I know that it isnt actually DX10, but to the casual observer there is no noticable differnce between the modded DX9 on XP and DX10 Vista versions.

DX9 on XP -

DX10 on Vista -

I cant see any difference at all :?

Makes me think that the DX10 thing is, for the moment at least, all hype and no actual substance.

I agree with the DX9 to DX10 comparison. I am running Vista right now and havent tried it on my XP install. I have a quad core and a 8800GTS 640MB video card and I run at 1024X768 All high detail an I get no slow downs. I am going to try the demo on XP this weekend to se if I can notice any visual difference between DX9 and DX10.

Before testing it with XP could you use FRAPS to get a FPS score for it on DX10 Vista, and then compare it to a FRAPs score on DX9 XP?

I reckon the XP will be faster with no difference in image quality from the DX10 version.
