S1500 #1 Posted October 29, 2007 Talk about a rarity in gaming. A game where shots from baddies can hurt their cohorts in trying to kill you. I've only seen it a couple of times. 1. Survivor - the turrets can shoot those wandering enemies. 2. Gauntlet: Dark Legacy - Larger 'boss' creatures will kill off grunts without a care in the world. 3. Fallout - enemies will often shoot through each other to hit you Anyone know of any other games?
Jess Ragan #2 Posted October 29, 2007 I think enemies can damage each other in River City Ransom, but it's a rare occurance. Generally it happens when someone tries to attack you but there's another thug in the way.
Foxy Cleopatra #3 Posted October 29, 2007 Halo 2 and 3 I know for sure, probably the first one as well.
supergamer #4 Posted October 29, 2007 Since this is modern gaming... all the ones listed here should apply http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_infighting I don't offhand know of any classic or arcade games with the concept. I'm sure some exist though, right?

liveinabin #6 Posted October 29, 2007 Knights of the Old Republic 2 had Gammorean guards and droids beating each other up. It also has millions of bugs so don't bother playing it
Kripto #7 Posted October 29, 2007 Using the awesome, yet ancient, Quiver Quake 1 editor on the Mac, one could set up huge chambers, overflowing with different groups of monsters which did NOT get along. Just construct the player a nice, safe perch from which to watch the action and watch the show. Placing a large number of explosive barrels in the room added to the mayhem. That Wiki link also mentioned in-fighting in the Turok games, which I don't recall.
+-^CrossBow^- #8 Posted October 29, 2007 Dewy's Adventure on the Wii is a recent new game where the enemies can hurt each other. They are also hurt by enviromental things as well, such as fire, ice, wind. In fact in many places it is a part of the game mechanic.

Also, the modern Prince of Persias apparently have enemies that can damage each other.
Gregory DG #10 Posted October 29, 2007 DOOM... If an enemy gets hit from another's fireball, species of critters will start killing each other. Kind of a neat strategy move if you're in a room full of monsters! (BTW, this does work with the Jaguar version, but not the 32X version. )
+RandomPerson #11 Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) I'm pretty sure the dudes can kill each other in Contra and I'm most sure they can in Double Dragon. Edited October 29, 2007 by Shawn Sr.
Flojomojo #12 Posted October 29, 2007 Warlords! DOOM was the first game where it really seemed to make a difference in gameplay -- I like being able to pop into a room, wake everyone up, and get out of there while they frag each other. I guess Berzerk is the spiritual 2D successor to DOOM ...
AtticGamer #13 Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) Like in Doom, in Quake (and Quake II I think) enemies get pissed off when hit by another enemy's fire. In Devil May Cry there is an enemy (spider) that can throw rocks at you and at another spider that is there too, however, they do not fight each other. Shannon #14 Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) Interesting topic and a question that oftimes crosses my mind when playing certain games. Most definetly doom and the halo series. I've also seen it happen in Half-Life 2 and oblivion. Although in those games it was either semi-scripted or very specific cases. For example the Combine fighting zombies or in Oblivion it would usually be humanoids vs a creature. Edited October 30, 2007 by Shannon
supercat #15 Posted October 30, 2007 Berzerk is the most obvious one to me... Certainly there have been a number of arcade games in which enemies could be destroyed by other enemies' fire. What made Doom and Quake interesting is that an enemy that was hit by an attack from a different species of enemy would actively target the entity that performed the attack. While some arcade games featured enemies that targeted other enemies (e.g. the saucers in Asteroids Deluxe) I don't know of any classic games where enemies targeted others for "revenge". S1500 #16 Posted October 30, 2007 Interesting topic and a question that oftimes crosses my mind when playing certain games. Most definetly doom and the halo series. I've also seen it happen in Half-Life 2 and oblivion. Although in those games it was either semi-scripted or very specific cases. For example the Combine fighting zombies or in Oblivion it would usually be humanoids vs a creature. I remember in Half-Life often the soldiers get caught by those stalactite tongue monsters and get swallowed up. Of course, if you shoot the monster, it frees the solider, but he still goes after you. Shows you how grateful HE is. Just let 'him get eaten for all I care.
Uzumaki #17 Posted October 30, 2007 Dungeon Explorer on TG-16, enemies can hurt each other if you get them caught in cross fire.

Tempest #20 Posted October 30, 2007 3. Fallout - enemies will often shoot through each other to hit you That was actually part of my strategy. I used to get the enemies to line themselves up in front of some mutant with a chain gun and watch as he mowed them all down for me. Good times... AussieAtari #21 Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) Far Cry has both, enemies killing each other (trigens killing mercs and mercs killing trigens), and some of the dumbest situations where enemies are invincible no matter what they are being hit with by their kind. koster #22 Posted October 31, 2007 Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem for the GameCube - creatures of differing alignments will attack one another.
+kisrael #23 Posted October 31, 2007 yeah, I think of DOOM as the most important example of this. I remember that one where it's a big arena that you can run on the outside edge of, and you pretty much have to get the Cyberdemon fighting w/ the big mama spiderbot... great stuff. BioShock, one of the powerups looks like a tomato that causes bad guys to go bezerk and target each other.
+FujiSkunk #24 Posted October 31, 2007 In the classic game field, there is Berzerk which NE146 mentioned, and also the 2600 port of Battlezone.
Robert M #25 Posted October 31, 2007 The Marathon games by Bungie that predated Halo has enemies that can hurt each other and start fighting. Better yet, you are sometimes aligned with a group of "enemies" and they will fight with you, but if you shoot them the alliance is off. Crossroads I and II for the C-64 was a free for all mosh pit of destruction. The Escape Velocity series is also a free for all with NPCs targeting each other all the time with Police forces interceding if they feel like it. Cheers!
