Wiffer #1 Posted July 24, 2002 Does anyone know of anywhere where there might be located Avi's of people playing Atari 2600 games and their great achievements or playing skills are displayed? For instance, I'm horrible at playing the awesome game of Frostbite, but would love to see someone with talent play this game.

Hopefully there will be other stuff added there as well soon I can hit the 800K mark on Frostbite but only using the good old Atari Joystick. I find Frostbite difficult with an emulator and struggle to get past the 300K mark which is not really impressive. I could record that for you though if you want. Wiffer #4 Posted July 24, 2002 Yes, I would love to see video of someone playing a Atari 2600 game (Frostbite and/or any other game) that is really good at it. I would also think that many other people might also be interested in seeing other people and their accomplishments and great playing ability. This might be a way for someone to be able to see a feat that they would never be able to do themselves, but would like to witness. (I.E. getting 10,000 points or higher on Kaboom! and seeing the mad bombers suprise expression.) I know I have never seen it, since the best I can get on that game is around 4,000 points. I'm sure there are a lot of talented players out there that can do it easily and it would be awesome to watch someone play with that ability and see how far they can go. brett6400 #5 Posted July 24, 2002 Wow, it would be really cool to add a bunch of avi's in the archive for all of the Atari games.

Fretwobbler #8 Posted July 25, 2002 Attatched to this post is a 3-baddie game at approx 300,000 points. This is when it starts to get interesting Adam frostbite_300000.zip
Wiffer #9 Posted July 25, 2002 Fretwobbler, Thanks for the clips, it was extremely interesting and I enjoyed watching you being able to play a game that I love, but am horrible at. I saw a lot of stuff that I didn't even know would happen and/or was in the game and may never see on my own playing ability. Hopefully others might want to be able to see clips of other people play other games and there might be a place to store some of them for access to download and view. Thanks once again, David
Albert #10 Posted July 25, 2002 Wow, that Frostbite clip is great! I love Frostbite, but I don't remember how far I was able to get in the game when I was younger. I think it would be great to gather together movies from various games showing game endings, playing (and surviving!) at high levels and or difficulties, easter eggs, and so forth. I'd be glad to create a page on AtariAge that hosts these movies, and I can also link to them from the individual entries in our database (so someone looking at the Frostbite entry can take a look at a movie showing Fretwobbler reaching nearly 300,000 points). ..Al
Wiffer #11 Posted July 25, 2002 Yes Albert, that is exactly what I was hoping to be able to find, see and do. Thanks for also offering to hosts the movies that people submit. Thanks, David

I'l hopefully have a 400K one for you soon as well I just wish I could use an Atari Joystick on my PC then I could send you avi's around the 800,00 mark. NE146 #14 Posted July 25, 2002 I know this is the wrong forum, but I would love to see video of a master arcade Robotron player rocking the game on the "Extra Conservative" setting. aaah yes seeing a master player rocking Robotron is a thing of beauty.. Have you tried checking the .inp files for mame? They used to have them at that Mame action replays's page http://marp.retrogames.com/. There are a couple of good scores there. However my experience is that it's kind of a pain as you have to play them back using whatever version the .inp was recorded at. So if the guy used mame .34, you have to play it back using mame .34 to watch it etc.
El Destructo #15 Posted July 25, 2002 I hate to spoil the love-in currently underway, but the .AVI file format is too brain-dead to tell you what codec you need to play a given movie, and many codecs aren't available outside of Windows. How about using a file format that is a. well-defined, and b. consistently playable on non-Microsoft operating systems? I vote for MPEG, with RealPlayer or QuickTime tied for a distant second. p.s. Only one post away from a rank increase! Ooh, so exciting...

Fretwobbler #19 Posted July 25, 2002 Fretwobbler, that is just simply amazing! It looks like the game is out of control at 400,000. Awesome player...... David On the contrary. At scores above 200-300K the game takes on a much stricter routine where in order to succeed you need to abide by certain rules and sequences of jumps. In the slower, earlier levels there is either no need for a set method beacuase its so easy or(and these are often the most difficult levels) there is a need for a set method but the method is unattainable because the frosty guy cannot jump the distances required to make it effective. If you break through the 100K mark the game does (temporarily) get much easier because of this. Adam

Fretwobbler #21 Posted July 25, 2002 Speed is not the only problem at this stage, the increasing frequency in which all four rows of ice contain a trio of baddies simultaniously really adds to the difficulty. Theres a lot less fish to go for, especially towards the end. Adam frostbite_500000.zip

Fretwobbler #23 Posted July 25, 2002 Whoa! What brand of joystick are you using, just for kicks? Nah, I use the original Atari sticks when playing on the real thing. tiggerthehun #24 Posted July 26, 2002 HOLY CRAP DUDE! THAT ROCKS! Thanks for putting that up. I'd like to see more AVI's - cause I too, suck at most games. BUT I HAVE FUN!!! I really enjoyed watching the Barnstorming video - cool to watch someone move in and out of those birds. Also really dug the "freeze Yorkle" video... Took me a while to do it myself - but there was something REALLY cool about seeing something new in a game I'd been playing for 15 years - already figuring "I'd seen it all." Now, if someone has a video of the "grouping" technique in Ms. Pac Man - THAT'S something I'd like to see - no, not to steal - cause I probably couldn't do it anyway - I just remember reading some article where Billy Mitchell talks about grouping all the ghosts ontop of eachother, and moving them around the screen at will. Sounds cool.
Fretwobbler #25 Posted July 26, 2002 Why thankyou for the compliments At 750,000 it takes on a new dimension . The ice moves so fast its not possible to start by jumping to the right. Unfortunately I jump in the water on the final journey back to the igloo but at this pace its nearly impossible to complete a level without facing death at least once. Just incase anyone fancies a go at this pace themselves Ive attatched a savegame for use with PC Atari Emulator starting where the attatchede avi starts. See if you can manage the level without dieing Adam frostbite_750000.zip frostbite_save_752890_points.zip
