Old computer parts

Recommended Posts

Anybody know of any good places to get old computer parts online? Specifically, I need a power supply for a Commodore 128, as it's a stupid proprietary plug. Some of my older comps could use various doodads, too.

for the power supply, try www.vintagecomputer.com. They have a bunch of C= stuff, and atari also. Better to know the item from the website and call them. Also, I think they accept checks and money orders only, though that may have changed.

What other old machines do you have?? I have a bunch, too.

eBay sometimes work but avoid untested because some Commodore product weren't made to be reliable. (C64 power supply fails a lot and can kill C64's)

Unless you have a specific reason to keep 128, I'd pick up a 128D as it used regular computer power cord.

I added a 4" muffin fan to the top of my C64 PWS back in the '80's. Never failed me. Just cut the plastic louvers off the top to allow more airflow. A bit noisy, but worth it.

I've had good luck with some 3rd party power supplies from Tenex. One of them was pretty much used continuously since the mid-80's to late 90's. Metal cases with good ventilation - these things were meant to last!

I might be mistaken, but I'm 95% sure that you can use a power supply from any of the smaller Amiga models (500, 600, 1200) on the Commodore 128. Not that Amiga power supplies are cluttering up the streets, but it might make your search a bit easier.
