joeybastard #1 Posted November 5, 2007 Has anybody picked this up for the DS? I have Konami Advance for the GBA but this has some extra games on it so I'm thinking of picking it up.
Flojomojo #2 Posted November 5, 2007 It's OK but not great IMHO -- get it cheaply and you shouldn't be too disappointed. The lower resolution of the DS squishes the graphics more than I'd like, but the game selection is decent and the controls and options are fine. I prefer the games on the GBA version, since my favorites are Gyruss and Frogger. The DS game has Contra, Gradius, Time Pilot, Scramble, Rush'N Attack, Horror Maze, Pooyan, Roc'N Rope, Track & Field, Circus Charlie, Basketball, Road Fighter, Yie Ar Kung Fu, RainbowBell, Shao-lin's Road. Nothing there really grabs me, and Gradius is much much better on the PSP with all of the sequels on the same disc.
Gregory DG #3 Posted November 5, 2007 I like it, but mostly for Track & Field. (You can set an autofire to get some crazy "roid-enhanced" scores. ) Contra is okay, but I really prefer the NES version. Time Pilot is good too, but I feel like I'm tearing up my DS Phat's D-Pad. Pooyan is pretty good for a quick game. Thought I'd play Gradius more, but I stink at it. The rest of the games I don't really play much. It's almost worth it (to me) for T&F, but $20 is a bit steep for that one game.
joeybastard #4 Posted November 5, 2007 I really like the GBA one, play it a lot, so the addition of the extra games is just all bonus to me. Sounds like I should pick it up, thanks guys.
NE146 #5 Posted November 5, 2007 It's OK but not great IMHO -- get it cheaply and you shouldn't be too disappointed. The lower resolution of the DS squishes the graphics more than I'd like, but the game selection is decent and the controls and options are fine. Don't forget that you can rotate the screen vertically (or any way you want) so it plays in the correct aspect ratio. And as far as the controls, you can even use another DS to control it in that way.. so it gets kind of cool
Jess Ragan #6 Posted November 5, 2007 It's kind of lackluster. I wish there were an option to let you play the games with pixel-perfect graphics and some cropping, but sadly, one does not exist. There's a lot of cool extra features in the game, like instructions, cabinet artwork, and hints, but it comes at the expense of the actual games. M2 handled the recent port of Namco Museum to the DS as well, so if you didn't like Konami Classics: Arcade Hits and have no particular interest in Pac-Man Vs., approach it with caution. BydoEmpire #7 Posted November 5, 2007 I really dig it. Great selection of games, including stuff like Tutankham (i.e. Horror Maze) that I haven't seen elsewhere, a couple of extras, and overall it's very playable.
PressureCooker2600 #8 Posted November 6, 2007 I wish they would release stuff like this for the PS2. All the other collections have been released.....mostly. I'm probably going to pick up a copy of the GBA version soon.

King_Salamon #10 Posted November 6, 2007 This has arcade Contra though correct? For that alone, it is awesome! No Frogger? No biggie, you can get Frogger on the other cart for the DS. I just picked up a new copy of this on Ebay for around $15 and with the Canadian dollar being worth more than the US now, it's all good.
Gregory DG #11 Posted November 6, 2007 No Frogger? No biggie, you can get Frogger on the other cart for the DS. I don't think there's a DS Frogger out right now. Maybe you're thinking of a GBA Frogger? (Unless you're talking about Marca DS.)

Maybe you're thinking of a GBA Frogger? (Unless you're talking about Marca DS.) No no... there's the Frogger game on the DS with the original game added to it. Helmet Chaos has the original Frogger on it... here's a link: http://ds.ign.com/articles/583/583160p1.html There's another Frogger game on the DS (Toy Trials) but it's not on that one. (It doesn't look like the original though. More like a 3D remake.)
Recycled #15 Posted November 6, 2007 I wish they would release stuff like this for the PS2. All the other collections have been released.....mostly. Indeed...the PSX Konami compilation was great, but could definitely use an upgrade. Plus...coincidentally....I just was looking at this version. My son has the gameboy version, but I wanted a copy. So far the cheapest I'm seeing it is $25 used on half.com. I'll pass for now.
PressureCooker2600 #16 Posted November 6, 2007 I would want it for just Yie Ar Kung-Fu. That game alone is awesome as hell and fun to play. I remember playing that game at a local Pizza Hut all the time.
BrianC #17 Posted November 6, 2007 Nothing there really grabs me, and Gradius is much much better on the PSP with all of the sequels on the same disc. I heard the slowdown, which the arcade does have, may be less accurate in the PSP Gradius (someone on the shmups forum made the claim that the PSP slowdown is a jerky type that might not be accurate to the original, though it might just be for Gradius III). The PSP Gradius doesn't have the variant that plays when the DS is set to English, though that variant is gets on the cheap side (though it tries to make up for the upped difficulty with power up enemies after death and continues), unlike the original, which is also in the DS version. To play to original Gradius is Konami Classics Series: Arcade Hits DS, simply set the DS's language to Japanese. The DS Gradius is a darn good version and, while it doesn't have the later games with it, it does have the other games in the pack with it like Contra, Tutankham, Time Pilot, Yie Ar Kung Fu, and Twinbee. Also, it shouldn't be overlooked that the games that are also in Konami Arcade DS, despite lacking the extras, play almost dead on to the arcade originals where the Konami Arcade GBA ones have some game play differences. Mixed reviews. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=105537 It's not all that mixed, and there's not enough there to call many of the opinions on that page reviews IMO. That page is not a good thing to go by. Edited November 7, 2007 by BrianC

Zwackery #20 Posted November 29, 2007 I picked this up on Black Friday - GameStop was running a special, new for only $9.99 - and I am really digging it!
